We choose to go here for our anniversary as my wife wanted fine dining and the reviews suggest exactly that. Sadly the experience does not deliver. While the food is priced like fine dining, the decor and service is not. We arrived wearing winter coats and the small coat rack at the front door was beyond full. No one greated us and eventually a waiter told us we could hang our coats somewhere at the back - I'd really expect a restaurant with wagyu on the menu at 550 euros per kg to take my coat and hang it for me. The music was not relaxing or in keeping with fine dining - dance music like a club but there is no dance floor and this clearly is not the image they are creating. There is 1 beer on tap - it is not Lithuanian and not tasty. Cocktails were ok. Tuna tartare and beef tartare were tasty starters but 80% more expensive than anywhere else in Kaunas. Mains are tasty but again overpriced for what feels like a bistro of cafe. A few other diners arrived, looked surprised at the menu and left. Overall 3 cocktails, 1 beer, 2 starters and 2 of the cheaper mains came to 130 euros which might seem good value to foreigners but as a resident of Kaunas I can tell you is not. For example the restaurant at Kauno Marios has tuna tartare for 10 euros, very good cocktails and a nice view out over the marina. My wife notes she would expect to be shown to our table and seated at this kind of price, chairs pulled out etc, coats taken and looked after and food introduced as it is served. You can and will find better places in Kaunas. I'd give more stars if the price was reasonable but it is not for...
Read moreOur experience at Dia was great. We came for early dinner on a Tuesday afternoon. The place is beautiful.
Service was excellent, witty and knowledgeable. English and Lithuanian.
Waiting at the table you will find delicious lil bread buns, crusty outside and soft inside, served along with seasoned butter, nice and soft.
We had the corvina ceviche and scallops for starters, both very tasty and good looking.
I had the oxtail broth and my husband had the cheese soup. Both dishes were cozy and delicious. Beautifully gelatinous broth on the oxtail soup - pulled meat was chewy-. Excellent contrast of flavors on the cheese soup with the cucumbers -
For main we shared the Argentinian stake and ordered a side of potatoes purée as an extra. The steak was very delicious, tender and juicy, the garnishes were also fire. We missed an overall touch of salt on everything in this dish, easily fixed with maldon.
We also shared a beautiful bottle of Ribera wine. They have an decent selection of wines.
For dessert I had the Cremeux - was very tasty and balanced, also very pretty dish. My husband had the Ganache, he liked it.
Finished the dinner with an excellent grappa - great suggestion from our server- and whiskey .
We will definitely be back and recommend.
Big thanks to the...
