Great Italian spot — worth a visit!
BOTTOM LINE: Book a table or prepare to wait — Flying Tomato is popular for a reason. If you're in Vilnius and in the mood for excellent pasta or pizza, it's definitely worth the detour. The owner has clearly done their homework: pasta is fresh, perfectly al dente, and full of flavor. Pizzas are made with premium ingredients and absolutely packed with taste. I highly recommend a pizza with tomato sauce and pesto — simple but delicious.
LONG VERSION: I visited twice. The first time I had the Flying Tomato Pasta (with tagliatelle instead of spaghetti, no problem to swap). The dish was full of deep savory flavors, and the guanciale was top quality and perfectly cooked. The carbonara I saw at nearby tables also looked traditionally made — creamy without using cream. Unfortunately, we had to wait 50 minutes for the food, and dishes didn't arrive at the same time — something they might need to address if kitchen capacity can't keep up with demand.
The second visit was smoother: food came at the same time after a 15-20 minute wait, though the restaurant was less busy then. This time I tried the seafood pasta — very good, though the seafood quality was just decent (understandable in Vilnius). Portions could be a bit larger — a little extra pasta would have made it perfect.
My wife ordered two different pizzas during our visits. The first one (without tomato sauce) lacked flavor, but that’s a matter of personal preference. The second time she went for a pizza with tomato sauce, pesto, and prosciutto — absolutely excellent. I’ll be ordering that next time myself.
Service stood out on both occasions — well above Vilnius average. Staff were attentive, pleasant, active, and spoke good English. Our waiter even advised us to skip the house wine and pay 1 EUR extra for a much better Pinot Grigio — great recommendation. To top it off, they accidentally forgot to add the wine to the bill, and when I pointed it out after paying, they told me not to worry — "it’s on the house." A very nice touch.
Extra bonus for having both digital and physical menus. Every item you order is linked to your table via QR code, and you can easily pay with Apple Pay — very convenient.

Read moreone of our favourites alongside užupis pizzeria! we’ve been here four times, including once for cocktails.
pizzas and cocktails were both superb, though this can’t be said about the cream based pizzas. during all the times we’ve been here, the tomato based pizzas were consistent standouts. will say though that the crust sometimes can get quite burnt at the sides, but we’re not too bothered by it!
pizzas we’ve tried included:
prosciutto e funghi: 9/10, would highly recommend! could do with more mushrooms though vegan dream: 9/10, tasty and vegetables were fresh amore: 11/10, my absolute favourite out of all the pizzas we’ve tried. this comes with spicy honey, and there really is a sweet taste with a spicy kick, and paired with the savoury tomato base and little peppers, the pizza is the best and most complex one i’ve had in my life! i will preface this by saying i love sweet and savoury combinations, and have always loved honey on my pizzas. while i love this pizza loads, the sweetness can feel overpowering or weird for some, but i have a sweet tooth and loveddd it. truffle mortadella: 2/10. barely ate this because it was quite salty and the cream base didn’t have much depth, it just felt like heavy cream. there was no truffle taste or smell either. overall really didn’t like this pizza, but i still love the tomato base pizzas and hence the 5 stars. margherita: 8.5/10. loved this too! good old margherita, nothing wrong with it and a really safe and good choice! would add on mushrooms in future though. tiramisu: 11/10. a MUST order. we finished this in a minute (genuinely). it’s the best tiramisu i’ve ever had in my life! every time we’ve dined in we’ve had the tiramisu and it’s been consistently phenomenal. i’ve had tiramisus across europe but this is single-handedly the best!
overall, lovely ambience, friendly staff, and a...
Read moreIt has always been my favorite pizza place so far. However, having chosen Pilies 8 for my b-day family meal I nearly regret it. Even though the food was really fine, I just cannot help sharing how awful the service was- English is my every day language at work. However, living in Lithuania I and my elderly guests have the full right to be served in our native language, no matter how good or bad our English is outside the walls of the cafe. It took the waiter nearly 20mins to finally come up and take the order for the antipasti. Having arrived well before my guests, I made it very clear that my intention was to order everything asap. When the dishes arrived, out of 3!!! one dish was still different from my original order. The waiter showed absolutely no interest even in the basics of his actual job- no vase for the flowers, no glasses to drink the served water, no drinks offered, let alone coming up and askingif anything else was needed. Technically his only interest was to emphasize that the service charge was not included in the bill. Honestly it sounded so pathetic that I left him those 10 € for the courage to even mention it . To believe you deserved ANY tip under the given circumstance is beyond my understanding😅. Guys, are you serious?!? Who hires such people? The choice of the right staff is SUCH a contributor to business. Why scr.. it hiring such failures?!? By the way, our visit was 28/09/2025 3pm-5.30pm and our 6 adult company was served by a bearded, black-haired tattooed guy. Dear future guests, if he is still working, wave him off if he approaches your table. However, it might be too late cause he will most likely show up to ask...
