A Culinary Symphony for the Senses.
Nest Bar and Grill in Miri is not just a restaurant; it's a tantalizing experience for the senses. Stepping through the entrance, I was immediately serenaded by a live singer, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening. The recent renovations were a visual masterpiece, a testament to the dedication and financial investment that went into creating a captivating and opulent ambiance.
The service was a shining example of hospitality, with the staff not only exuding politeness but also radiating genuine friendliness, making me feel like an honored guest. Attention to detail extended to the presentation of the dishes, where aesthetics and flavors harmonized seamlessly.
The Wagyu beef deserves its own culinary accolade. Each bite was a revelation, as the meat, tender and juicy, seemed to possess a natural sweetness that rendered any additional sauce redundant. However, it was the lamb shank that truly stole the show. The succulence of the meat, combined with the preservation of its juices and the collagen from the tendon, made every mouthful a veritable symphony of flavors, leaving me yearning for an encore. The accompanying red wine sauce was a masterpiece, enriching the lamb without overshadowing its delicate essence. The salmon, while enjoyable, fell in line with the expected, presenting a satisfying yet more conventional option.
Adding to the overall experience were the side dishes that accompanied all the mains. Of these, the Assam pumpkin was the true star, a revelation of flavors. The combination of pumpkin with Assam and sour plum created a crunchy and appealing sensation for the palate. It was a delightful surprise that added a unique dimension to the meal.
In this gastronomic symphony, the only minor note of discord was the salad, which, though fresh, paled in comparison to the other orchestral masterpieces on the menu. The overall service was exemplary, but it did experience a slight dip as the evening drew to a close. It was evident that some of the servers had concluded their shifts, requiring a bit of orchestration to gain their attention. As the crescendo of the evening approached, we eagerly awaited the avocado cheesecake we had ordered. Regrettably, it failed to materialize until we raised our hands a few times, as our original server seemed to have taken an unplanned intermission.
In closing, Nest Bar and Grill in Miri is a culinary experience that dances on the taste buds and serenades the senses. With a few refinements to the service, especially towards the end of the evening, this symphony of flavors has the potential to become an orchestral masterpiece, delivering an even more unforgettable...
Read more2 stars are for the relaxed and sophisticated ambience and effort behind the decor, as well as the service, especially the girl who served us that night - very attentive and polite. Unfortunately the main aspects that should keep a f&b establishment going are a bit of a let down - the food and drinks.
I had an iced latte - bit on the weak side, price is fair for a coffee of that size (RM10). I savoured the avocado cheesecake (RM17.90?), the Diablo flatbread (RM29.90), and the Cuban panini. With the price tag, I expected a lot more. For the avocado cheesecake, certainly, it was light in its taste - more delicate than the usual cheesecake - instead of cheese or avocado, the mixture somehow gave the distinct impression of gelatin being the dominant taste. I can't be sure if this ingredient was used or not, it's the only word I could use to describe the experience.
As for the Diablo, I was warned to not expect the usual pizza or bready texture associated with Greek, Italian or Middle Eastern cousins but rather a thin, biscuit-y and crispy texture which I quite liked. The toppings themselves smelled really good and the flavours went together quite well, until a dining partner commented that there was a pungent "blue cheese" smell. I didn't think that aged cheddar could taste that strong, we figured it was coming from the prawns.
Cuban - The server/cashier forewarned to me that the dish would be 'salty', which I was prepared for, otherwise, what good is a pickle in a cubano without the salt? :) What I did not expect was that that was the only taste in the sandwich which was otherwise quite bland. For RM 25.90 and being notified by the server, I expected to get a salty-porky hit from the ham, umami from the cheese, and a sweet-sour pickle to contrast. The texture of the panini itself was good. The redeeming factor for that dish was the fries (dusted with parmesan?) which was not meant to be the star of the dish!
I'd give The Nest another go for other usual cakes (something with chocolate), and perhaps savour a breakfast dish or their burger. For the prices attached, my expectations...
Read moreMixed feelings indeed.
Celebrated my birthday here. Really love the ambience, the band, (most of) the staff. Definitely a nice experience apart from a particular server and the food.
Menu probably changed after my last visit but seeing paella on the menu, as a paella lover, I cant resist but ordering. While waiting (it was a super long wait btw), I jokingly told my partner since it is a sharing platter, dinner could be hit or miss, but didn't expect it to be terrible.
Paella smelt burned with burned bottom. Approached server (a tall guy), he said unapologetically that is traditional way of cooking and if we dont like the authentic way, we can inform the chef next time. In disbelief, I corrected him by saying it should be a nice crust not charred. Server responded by saying maybe I can google and see how it is supposed to be. Then proceed to walk away.
Words cant describe my feelings. And probably because of that, paella tasted awful - just when I thought the worst paella ever is the infamous Paella in Borough Market, London, this sets the bar "higher".
As a foodie, from a rationale, technical point of view, and with a bit of google search as advised by the server, the paella is overcooked and unevenly cooked such that only the middle section is charred. That speaks for the texture. As for the seasoning, I really have no comments - am still baffled how it can taste that bad.
Probably their customer base is too "atas" such that ppl cant comment if they haven't step foot in Valencia.
Regardless, from previous visits, the steak, pasta, and...
