We used to really like this spot and decided to come back after a long time. The good news – the omelette is still tasty, fluffy, and comforting, and the salmon fish head (sake kabuto shioyaki) remains one of the better dishes here, nicely grilled with that smoky char.
The rest of the food this round was just average. The tonkatsu yakisoba felt a bit heavy and not very memorable, while the ika geso foil mayo and kaki gratin were okay but nothing that stood out. Drinks like Sapporo and hot green tea are always safe choices, but overall the meal didn’t wow us the way it used to.
The place itself has a cozy Japanese izakaya vibe – simple wooden tables, chalkboard menu on the wall with handwritten specials, and soft lighting that makes it feel quite homey. It’s nice for a quiet evening, but I wish the flavors across the menu matched the warm ambiance.
Still worth visiting for the omelette and grilled salmon head, but for the rest, I’d say it was a so-so...
Read moreWe were exploring Chowrasta Market and feeling peckish decided to explore the surrounding areas.
Feeling hot too, we decided on an aircon place and came across Tokyo Bistro...
Went in and was greeted with friendly smiles and warm welcome!
Seeing how hot it was, the Captain Yan Naing even turned up the coolness!
We ordered seafood teppanyaki set and katsu nabeh set.
The set consisted of salad, egg mince, pickled ginger, miso soup, bowl of rice and the main.
The katsu pork was soft and tender. Well marinated and flavoursome. Generous servings of onion and accompanied by the rice, deliciously complementary!
The seafood teppanaki portion was just asgenerously sized!
This place also has a wide array of Japanese wines with a large impressive collection lining the wall!
Worth a visit if you are something Japanese without the high end prices! Look for Joe, Asst Mgr and Alice, they will absolutely...
Read moreThe food is not bad. Actually, it's better to break them into two parts. Initially when we have the sashimi and the entrée, those are actually great. The sashimi is very fresh and you can get the good quality Otoro here as well. The entrée is quite special which you can't get anywhere as well.
After that, we have the wagyu teppanyaki, which is also great, but make sure you take it out soon if you wanted medium rare or medium. Their special item - pork knuckle is actually quite good. The meat is tender and the sauce is nice.
Once we started to get into other main course, it was ok, but just ok, not as great as the items we have before it. So we are slightly disappointed as we hold high hope since the beginning.
To make it up, the place actually has a great service with very friendly staff. Remember to ask the staff for special item which...
