Location: The hotel’s location is great for exploring George Town, with a 24-hour convenience store just across the street. However, the poor service and lack of amenities left much to be desired.
Check-In Experience: When I first arrived, they left an inexperienced trainee alone at the counter, which was a bit chaotic. I parked my luggage, left for lunch, and returned to find staff reprimanding the trainee for double-charging another guest. While it didn’t directly affect me, it raises a concern—why not pair trainees with experienced staff to provide a better customer experience?
Accessibility: The hotel has no elevator, and the room floors are uneven. For reference, the “second floor” is actually the third story. This setup is not ideal for elderly guests or those with mobility issues.
Room Condition: My room had some odd maintenance issues. For example, one window was patched with cardboard and masking tape, which didn’t exactly inspire confidence in the room's security. Noise was also a major issue, with sounds from the stairwell, traffic, honking, and daily prayers audible inside. If you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs—it’s nearly impossible to work, let alone have a quiet Zoom call, with the constant noise.
TV (Another Item for Show): Only four channels were available, none of which included news. I expected at least basic local news or international media coverage. The advertised Netflix, Prime, and YouTube options didn’t work. Some kind of connection issue persisted, and troubleshooting didn’t resolve it.
Bathroom Issues: Despite claims of addressing feedback, I encountered multiple issues with the bathroom: Water Temperature - The water temperature fluctuated constantly, switching between hot and cold unexpectedly. It took a while just to get lukewarm water. Water Pressure - The pressure was so low that washing out shampoo and conditioner was a struggle, especially with longer hair. Shower Head - The rain shower was clogged, leaving only a handheld option. At 160 cm, I had to bend over to use it, so it’s not ideal for taller guests. Bathtub - Don’t bother with paying more for the room option that includes a tub; it took ages to fill even a fraction of it.
Room Cleanliness and Comfort: The “Make Up Room” switch was faulty, and staff didn’t check in to see if cleaning was required during my entire stay. I dealt with mosquitoes in my room, waking up to bites on my hands and legs. I’m not even sure if this was due to bed hygiene or the presence of mosquitoes.
Balcony: The balcony furniture was filthy, so I avoided sitting on it altogether. Privacy is a concern with low fencing; anyone could easily cross from one balcony to another. Noise travels easily through the walls, so I could hear my neighbor sneezing, smoking, and talking on the phone from their balcony.
Jacuzzi Pool: The “jacuzzi pool” was overrun with pigeons, which suggests it’s more for show than actual use.
Overall, I’m not sure how this hotel has earned its four-star rating. While the location is ideal, I’d choose a different hotel for my next...
Read moreI have high expectation as I read good reco online. However, I have a disappointment 4N stay at Rooms with Bathtub at Balcony (or maybe I was just unlucky): Hygiene There was some liquid on the toothbrush box, long hairs in toilet, stain on glasses and 2 empty boxes of toiletries (housekeeping did not check whether the toiletries were properly filled), toilet wall filled with toothbrush stains and dust seen at the door handle, dressing area etc I was informed the room was cleaned by a new joiner who has no experience and they will reclean the room for me Came back and saw black dust on my duvet. I called the reception and after 15 mins, noone came. I called again, Nad came and seems clueless as he explained housekeeping left and he will call supervisor for advice. After 20 mins, I still did not get any answer. I called Nad, he repeated the same thing. I was upset as there is no courtesy to inform back after his last check and I waited 35 mins for no progress. I ended up sleeping on dirty duvet. Housekeeping I left my room at 7am and returned at 5pm, the room was not cleaned. reception explained they were shorthanded & the cleaners have moved to another hotel to do cleaning. I waited 40 mins before they clean up my room (I saw they way they cleaned the room, was not thorough) Housekeepers are not in uniform, felt they are cleaners from somewhere else. Room Amenities There are no hand soap, facial tissue, face towel and body lotion. Felt that the price paid should have included as I stayed for 4 nights. Everytime I wash my hand, need to walk to bath area to pump the body wash to wash my hand back at basin. Besides, as the hotel does not serve breakfast/food, it does not have any cutleries/plate provided if you wish to dine in your room Room bell wasn't working either Hospitality No greeting to guests at all, whether it is arrival, morning, evening - felt no hospitality at all. During arrival, not much is explained, a lot of things have to read through the manual in room. This hotel has no lift, you're expected to carry your own luggage with noone in the reception offering help. Although Amir did call back to understand the situation, nothing much is compensated. If I top up a little more, I could have stayed in Jen Penang or The Wembley - A St Giles Hotel with breakfast included, better amenities and certainly better hospitality. Not sure I'll return to this hotel although location was convenient, room is spacious with bathtub at balcony was amazing (bathbomb...
Read moreWould suggest to get your accommodation else where. First of all, wasn't expecting a side small entrance, second.. theres no lift at all for elderly or pregnant women. We had to climb the stairs all the way to second floor. There are a lot of defects in the room. There’s even a hole in the ceiling, broken floors where our toes almost get hurt, dirty stained beds, torn bed sheet and the towels are very old comes with an unpleasant smell. Yes, location is convenient but for us who drive, they don't even provide free parking for such room price and we were not being informed on this nor did they mention it in their site. We had to pay for the parking and its limited. We booked 3 rooms, came in two cars but they only have 1 carpark slot available (which need to pay rm12 per night), another car will need to pay by hourly rate which its about rm30 per night. Very disappointed with this place. Will never come back again. I’ve been to other hotels in penang and they do provide free parkings for such room price. They didn't even bother to cover the hole on the ceiling for us after we informed them which they said they will send someone to patch it for us at least, but no they didnt. Our concern was mosquitos if you’re curious why we wanted them to patch it at least. Sound proofing between rooms are so bad, we can hear the conversation of next room neighbour. Low water pressure and the bathtub in our room doesnt even have normal temperature water, theres only hot water. We had to wait for hours to fill up the bath tub and hold the shower head to fill up some normal temperature water other wise its a tub full of super hot water. Yes they provide aristo coffee capsules, sounds great but the machine has limescale, we didnt even touch it. Its not even a 4 stars hotel. The bath salt provide is not even dry, its wet inside.. It feels so disgusting. My sister and her partner requested new towels. The staff dont even bother to knock first to check if there’s someone in the room. My sister already put up the sign of “do not disturb” and it was just a few minutes after we checked in that they requested the towels. The staff just scan and open the room door directly. This certainly doesnt feel safe at all and theres...
