OMG! Java Tree is so good! I don't understand why the low review ratings! I must give them a total redemption! Ambience: Very nice and quite ambience, akin to bringing me back to colonial hey days of Penang =) Service: Service is impeccable! Very attentive and very well trained staff. Food is always served together for the whole table, and that little touch of folding the napkin when guest leaves the table briefing is also done perfectly! Food: Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! Special mention goes to their Escargot - which is the BEST escargot dish I had ever tasted all around the world! Their creation of baking the escargot on mushroom (instead of in a recycled shell) is absolutely ingenious! The mushroom absorbed the flavours of the escargot as well as the olive oil, making this dish a beautiful symphony of flavour on the palate! Bravo! You should also try their Foie Gras terrine, which is whole foie gras pressed into a terrine, which I had never seen before anywhere else! The beef tournedos (which is a fillet mignon) is also served to perfection! This is one restaurant that I will definitely visit again in my future visit to Penang! =)

We had our CNY dinner at Java Tree at E&O Heritage Hotel. The restaurant serves Nyonya food and they had a great menu curated for the CNY dinner. The highlight of the dinner was Pais Ikan (red snapper in the black nut paste). I know in the picture it looks like burned fish, but it’s not and is actually super yummy! Another great advantage was the waiter (whose name I haven’t memorised, unfortunately). He was extremely helpful and friendly. He suggested the best wine to pair our food with. We followed his advice and chose Austrian Singing Grüner Veltliner wine. It was really crisp and fresh. I’ve never tried Austrian wine before and it was a great occasion to try it. Overall, the food was really good. Apart from Pais Ikan, the Tiger Prawn Lemak Manis was very delicious too. The desserts were great too! Loved the travelling dessert cart that had every option you’d imagine! The wine list is very extensive and covers many countries - so if you’re into wine, you should try this place. The price-wise, it’s not the cheapest, but the experience and quality of food makes it worth every ringgit spent.

First impression was the ambience is nice and warmth, full of antique feeling. When come to utensils and tableware, it’s quite dusty , maybe long time didn’t use or less guest coming in or the aircond not in good service which cause the tiny black dust to drop on most of the tableware and tablecloth. Hope the hotel food manager is aware of this. Food wise, set dinner of lamb shank ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️is ok, but the chicken ⭐️⭐️is quite tasteless. Bread ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️is nice , crispy outside soft inside with butter . Ravioli ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️and Bouillabaisse ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️dish are good and nice. Duck leg ⭐️⭐️⭐️is moderate but the sauce is quite good. Smoked salmon ⭐️⭐️is a bit lower than expectation. Desserts ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️are good in overall. Service is ok. Staff are friendly and nice.

We checked in at the hotel around 2PM and since there weren't many other restaurants nearby the staff suggested that we try Java Tree.

The service was slow and without any warmth. We ordered a beef rendang, a nasi lemak, satay skewers, shrimp curry and a salad. It took over 45 minutes for the food to arrive! I asked them twice if they were able to bring whatever is ready to the table so we could start munching, but they just shrugged it off and kept saying 'the food is being prepared'.

Now I am pretty sure that a beef rendang should be able to arrive on the table fairly quick as it isn't something that needs to be cooked on the spot, just reheated as it should have been stewed for hours in advance. Also, I do not expect fast food timing, but 45 minutes is just not acceptable.

Pricing wise it is also heavily overpriced. I do not mind paying a pretty dollar for high quality food, but this wasn't even mediocre at best.

I wish the management could train their staff to the standard of what they say they stand for. At the moment it...
