I usually don't write review after visiting a restaurant, but I had to this time because I had a bad experience over there.
I went there last night, 31st of December to have dinner with my girl. It wasn't just a new year celebration dinner, but it is also our 3rd year anniversary dinner, so it meant a lot to both of us.
When we arrive, we were guided to our seat by a friendly staff, by the glass window, perfect seat with the perfect view.
As we were dining, a senior waiter (I can tell by his gestures, attitude and they way he serves) came by and gave us a menu which are all the list of alcohol. But me and my girlfriend are both non-alcoholic so we rejected the menu, POLITELY.
Then the attitude of the senior waiter towards us changed drastically, just because we didn't order any alcohol? If you had hot chocolate or orange juice I would definitely ordered it even if the price is higher than Starbucks ._.
The same waiter hand me the bill when I am eating... Now this really messed me up. Do I have to pay while I'm eating? If you have a busy dining room with lots of customers, I get it. But me and my girlfriend went there early in the evening and there weren't so crowded at all. I even observed that the same waiter only hand them the bill after the other customers FINISHED their meal... he even offer to take pictures for them and being very nice and friendly. Why did he treat us so differently?
My plates are finished, he didn't even take it away when he walked pass, 3 times! My glass of water is finished and he walked pass with a jug of water on hand without refilling my glass. The candle on my table wasn't even lit until I told the other waiter to do it...
Don't get me wrong, the environment and food are top notch and worth the price. Salmon sashimi and baby octopus are very very fresh, mushroom soup is thick and nice, spaghetti and tomato rice is not bad as well. But being served by a waiter like him really breaks the mood to hell... You know who you are...
Read moreMy recent visit to the revolving restaurant at the Bayview Hotel in Penang was an overwhelming disappointment. The experience was a series of letdowns, from décor to dining.
The décor was a glaring issue. It seemed as though the interior was furnished with whatever was on clearance at a discount shop. The resulting ambiance was cheap and tacky, not helped by the disorienting revolving feature and poorly thought-out lighting.
The food was mediocre at best, failing to capture the essence of Penang's rich culinary heritage. Instead, the menu featured uninspired, bland dishes that seemed chosen more for their cost-effectiveness than any culinary merit.
To add insult to injury, the pricing was outrageous. They charged 50 RM for a glass of juice, which felt like daylight robbery. The combination of subpar offerings and exorbitant prices made the entire experience feel like a waste, both of time and money.
In conclusion, the revolving restaurant at the Bayview Hotel is a dismal affair. It's not just that it failed to meet basic expectations; it's that it seemed to make no real effort to provide a worthwhile dining experience. The novelty of its revolving feature is lost amidst the glaring faults in every...
Read moreOk. Let's be honest. You don't come to this place for the food, because the food honestly isn't great at all. At RM88 per pax (before SST), and for the food you get it's not exactly value for money. You're paying for the experience of the revolving restaurant. It's quite fun at the beginning but the novelty soon wears off. It might even trigger sensation of dizziness to those who are susceptible. Anyway, the service was very good. The ambience was nice. I have to complain about the chairs though - they're too stiff and small. You better not have a big derriere or you'll have a hard time fitting into those tiny hard chairs. Now, about the food. They're mostly local hawker fare - rojak, laksa, cendol, curry fish, fried chicken etc. The laksa was decent but do yourself a favour, skip the hokkien noodles - it's quite unpalatable. The prawns are not fresh. The ice cream was mushy. The ice kacang was more water than ice. At 88 per head, I wish they also provide some sort of free flow drinks but they only have iced water. They have a singer providing live music. Not bad at all, although I wish he could keep the volume...
