We decided to try this restaurant by convenience as it was raining and it had vegetatian options too, but the food was surprisingly very good . We ended up ordering Pizza, Seabass and the Rajma. And mum mum really enjoyed her Mojitos (she requested very very little ice). We were surprised by how delicious the pizza was. My mum claimed she hasn't had a pizza this good in a while (take note it's extra thin crust). The Seabass was also very well done, and my parents really enjoyed the roasted vegetables on the side. The Raajma was also very well done. Was light and, very flavourful, the slight lemony taste worked really well with the dish Our waiter Subhas Chandra was very attentive and friendly as well, he made sure the Raajma didn't have any milk products in it, and kept happily making adjustments - removing the ice from the cocktails etc, also suggesting the Raajma can be made with less oil. The toilets were very clean, the owner owns the bar next door so the toilet there was accessible for my 80 plus year old grandma, and very clean. Overall a very pleasant experience. Recommend for indian/western food with good vegetarian options and...
Read moreLooks like a pub, but the food is undoubtedly incredible! Don't be put off by the Western themes at first glance. Not cheap, but not pretentious.
At first I was thinking, 'oh it's a sports pub like in the UK, this will be made up for Westerners; I shouldn't expect anything special, the food would be mediocre...oh yes now I see there are lots of white guys here...'
Get past the exterior of the place and it's a right Gem. The hospitality was excellent, the food was superb, probably more for the western pallet, but definitely one of the best curries I've had in years. As the meal progressed, more and more locals came in, which is always a good sign. They were also eating curry, so I imagine this is a well known place to go.
They also have Sheesha or Hooka, the cleanest toilets I'd seen in 5 days in Penang and the best selection of beer.
Happy 'hour' ends at 10pm, and they bring you the second cocktail when you're ready, rather than immediately. Quite a nice touch.
I'd bring all and any to this place. Highly...
Read moreAwesome place to visit again & again. We've been coming here every year. I've seen them growing for more than a decade and they have maintained the same quality although the staffs have changed. I appreciate that. I missed this place during the Covid lockdown.
India has much to thank the Portuguese for the classic Vindaloo. The dish was brought to India in the 15th century by Portuguese explorers to the sunny beachside state of Goa. It’s actually an Indian adaptation of the Portuguese dish ‘carne de vinho e alhos’, which basically is meat preserved with garlic & wine. A unique technique to marinate and keep meat preserved to enhance its longevity & flavour. Vindaloo is a fiery dish. It’s flavours are strong & bold - spicy, sour & garlicky. And that's the very taste offered in offered in Olive Kitchen + Bar in Penang. U must try that dish. It's awesome with the very same original taste. U...
