Had a very unpleasant experience with the service staff at the hotel. Firstly they did not communicate the parking situation to us clearly and did not tell us we had to bring our touchngo to be validated to get the free parking. Instead the staff Lingesh took our car plate number and did not indicate further action. The next day, we were charged RM61 for our parking and when we raised the issue to the day staff they redirected to the night staff. The night staff Lingesh got defensive with us and insisted he had tried to tell us and stop us from entering the lift so we could validate our card. Strange that none of us three heard, Mr Lingesh is not a particularly soft spoken fellow. He insisted to the point of saying he can show us CCTV footage. So we said show us the footage. Then he proceeded to hide in the back room and made us wait for over half an hour with our car idling outside the hotel. I tried to get them to finally validate our touchngo but the other staff Mr Nazri appeared very confused as to how the validation situation worked. Eventually we got fedup of waiting for Lingesh to reappear and told them to call us in our room once they got the footage. Surprise, surprise, no call was forthcoming so I went down to the desk again to enquire only to be told Lingesh was on his 1 hour break and that we would instead speak to the manager Michael the next day. I was getting really fed-up at this point from all the stalling tactics.
The next day the manager Michael was extremely unhelpful and said they were still checking footage and asked us to come back. No apology or acknowledgement of their miscommunication. So we came back after an hour and he still didn't show us the footage. He said instead they would transfer the money back to our touchngo within the day. Still no apology forthcoming for the miscommunication or for making us waste so much of our precious holiday time. It has been 48 hours since we left and still no sign of the RM61. We basically got scammed by this two-bit, cigarette-smelling hotel. The worst experience I have had with hotel...

I usually hate leaving bad reviews, but this time I’m genuinely upset. My family and I have been loyal guests at this hotel since 2007 every time we visit Penang. But our most recent stay on 23-24/09/2025 was by far the worst experience we've had.
After checking out, it was raining heavily with VERY STRONG winds. Our taxi had already arrived, and we were in a rush to get to the airport with a lot of luggage. We tried to use the automatic door, which was the closest way to the taxi. But the security guard refused to let us use it, just because he didn’t want the rain coming inside. Sure, I get the concern, but we were guests trying to catch a flight in the middle of a storm, dragging heavy bags. The least they could’ve done was offer some help or flexibility.
Instead, we were forced to walk further to a smaller side door, completely exposed to the wind and rain. We ended up SOAKED. I’m not blaming the weather, but the staff’s complete lack of assistance and empathy was unacceptable.
To make it worse, none of the staff, neither security nor reception, bothered to help. They were too busy mopping the floor and watching us struggle. It was obvious that keeping the floor dry mattered more to them than helping guests in distress. Not a single umbrella was offered. Not even a word of concern.
And I have to mention the rude attitude of the female receptionist. She looked annoyed the entire time, and was even rude at a new staff member right in front of us. It was awkward and unprofessional. I wasn’t going to say anything about it at first, but after everything, it just added to the disappointment.
I’m literally writing this at the airport, still wet from the rain. So thank you for the warm farewell. After years of staying here, this experience really makes me reconsider ever booking this...
Read moreAn old hotel with renovated bathroom
I booked grand superior twin room and its comfortable enough for four of us (two adults, two child). Don’t worry about parking, there will be parking access card for the hotel guests and if it’s full, there will be staffs assisting you on how to park your car in front of the chinese restaurant as long as you check in first and mentioned your hotel room no. But you will need to bring your luggage from the parking to the hotel lobby, there is no way directly to get to hotel lobby or room.
I am at 5th floor and only get the partial sea view and city view but it was okay. Near to attractions in georgetown, sup hameed just in front of the builiding, you can just walk. There is 24hours mart (don’t know if it 24h but still open at 11pm), you can buy anything you need there.
Have an iron but no fridge in room (quite disappointed because we bring the drinks for kids), tv channel are basic but still can enjoy movies (vision four, etc). No swimming pool. We didn’t get the breakfast but the restaurant is in 11th floor which i bet there will be a nice view to dine in.
Bathroom is great with bath tub. The room comes with two single beds combined together and its comfortable enought for four of us.
Great value of accomodation in the middle of georgetown heritage city especially in the peak season (school holiday) but maybe wouldn’t come again, haha. Its unplanned trip and all...
