Char Kuey Teow (Chicken Egg) = RM9.00 No Service Charge
This is a Michelin Bib Gourmand Food Stall.
Located within the Joo Hooi Kopitiam, this is also Conveniently located right next to the Famous Penang Roadside Teochew Chendol Stall at Lebuh Keng Kwee. Although the Kopitiam itself was crowded, there were No Queue as of 4.50pm on a Monday Evening. As mentioned, you can actually bring your Teochew Chendol into this Kopitiam and enjoy it together with the Char Kuey Teow if you want.
The CKT Stall is run by what looks like a Young Chap and his Elder Mom. Despite the Cartoon Mascot of a Guy in the Signboard, presumably the "仁哥" in the name, its the Elder Lady who is doing the Main Cooking. They are Friendly and especially the Young Chap has a Very Genki and Friendly Welcoming Demeanor. The CKT was quickly served up in about 2 Mins.
Char Kuey Teow (Chicken Egg) = RM9.00
First Impression, the CKT is actually a pretty small plate with a Piece of Banana Leaf at the Bottom. That said, the Amount of CKT is piled high so despite being a Small Plate, its just about enough for 1 Person. Has a Nice Fried CKT Aroma.
This was the 1st CKT I actually eaten in Penang. The First Bite of it was quite Oily but taste Surprisingly Light. Considerably Lighter than most of the CKT we have in Singapore. Neither Overly Sweet nor Salty. The Kway Teow also noticeably have a Crystaline Look to them.
All the Ingredients in a Standard CKT are here, Cockles, Egg, Prawns, Lup Cheong. All of them were very Standard Tasting although I enjoyed the 2 Fat Prawns as they were Bouncy, Juicy and Taste Sweet. I feel this is a CKT that will probably appeal more for People who enjoy a Lighter Tasting, not so 重口味 CKT.
Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
At the Price of RM9.00 (S$2.70), it is worth the Money to give this a Try, but I'll be very honest, I didn't think this was a Particularly Special Tasting CKT. No offence, but I have no idea why this is awarded Michelin.
Other than tasting lighter than usual, I just thought it tasted quite normal for a CKT. While this is a Well Made Plate of CKT, personally I don't feel it is worth to fly all the way to Penang just to eat this. I certainly won't queue for this either.
I do appreciate the Very Genki, Friendly and Welcoming Demeanor of the Young Chap manning this place and he is a Main Reason why I can recommend this place. As this is also just next to the Famous Teochew Chendol Stall, I figured why not just 顺便 also give this a try if there are no queues.

Read moreWe tried the Chee Cheong Fun, Cendul, Oyster Omelette, Assam Laksa, Fried Rice and some fried Yong Tau Fu (located just outside). We also bought some Black Thorn durian from across the Cendul stall. I haven't tried many others to make a proper comparison so my recommendation is purely base on personal taste. I would definitely get the cendul, cheong fun, assam laksa and the durian again on future visit.
It was my first time trying the assam laksa and I'm sold. Very nice! When eating cheong fun you should ask for more sambal because I think it improves the flavor of the dish more than you think. The sambal is not as hot as those Korean dishes so don't worry.
Last but not least, if you appreciate durian you have to try the black thorn. The sweet creamy taste is balanced by a slight bitterness so the rich flavor isn't overwhelming. It's expensive but it's worth it!
Just found out this place has an outlet in Gurney Plaza's basement among the other food and beverages outlets. I have not tried it there so I cannot comment on the taste but saw it serve almost all of the dishes including the cendul, assam laksa and rojak. If you prefer dining indoor with AC and don't mind the more expensive price then it's...
Read morePlease order the ckt if you come here. It's definitely one of the better ones. There's enough wok hei here to fulfill the ckt criteria. The salt and spice are nicely balanced, a bit on the lighter side and I enjoyed it more because of that. The oiliness is also just right. The koay teow itself is also well separated and not clumpy. In short, a delicious plate of ckt that I wouldn't mind coming again to try.
Hokkien mee here was quite average. Taste was OK but didn't really impress me to be honest. Fried oyster even though was a little expensive but they do give a lot of oyster (of varying sizes). Fortunately they don't mix a lot of starch and they use mostly egg instead. Tasty actually.
This cafe is actually quite cramped but unique in a sense that you don't actually need to order directly at the stall by yourself. The staffs will come to your table after you sit down and they will order on your behalf. I feel they are quite well organized. If there's one complaint, it's that the food here is expensive. Not sure why there's a 'surcharge' but it's definitely a little bit more pricier than others of the same standing. This actually will prevent me from coming...
