We decided to try Dim Sum Valet and ordered eight different plates to sample a variety of flavors. Some were absolutely worth ordering again, while others were quite underwhelming. Here’s our ranking, from best to least favorite:
Salted Egg Yolk Pau – The best of the lot! The filling was rich, creamy, and had the perfect balance of sweetness. Definitely a must-order next time! Pandan Chicken – Fragrant, juicy, and full of flavor. A solid choice that I wouldn’t hesitate to get again. Scallop & Fungus Dumpling – A nice combination of textures and flavors. While it wasn’t outstanding, it was enjoyable. Scallop Siew Mai – Tasted fine but didn’t have a wow factor. Would not order it again. Seafood Wantan – It was alright, but nothing particularly memorable. Would not order it again. Prawn Dumpling (Har Gow) – The filling was nice, but the skin was too thick, which made it less enjoyable. Tom Yam Siew Mai – The most disappointing dumpling. The Tom Yum flavor was barely noticeable, and the texture was too firm. Beef Rendang Pau – This was the biggest letdown. It lacked the bold, rich flavors of rendang and ended up being quite bland. Definitely wouldn’t order again.
I think I’ll opt for takeaway next time and reheat them at the hotel for breakfast. Here’s what I’m looking forward to trying on my next visit: Pandan Milk Tea, Lotus Leaf Rice, Cheesy Salmon, Prawn Wantan, Seafood Salted Egg, Ocean Roll, Custard Pau.
Overall, Dim Sum Valet had a good variety, though some dishes were...
Read moreI can tolerate on anything else but not when u start to charge me 20 cent for a dang straw like I have committed a war crime againts nature if I’m to use one in your establishment while at the same time there are other plastic utensils such as disposable plastic spoons and forks, and sauce trays still being used at large. At least, if you wanna sound like you are the warrior of environment and punish us with 20 cent for wanting a straw, at least show it by not using plastics in ur place man. Otherwise its just look to me that u only do this for profit and using environment as an excuse. Even the turtles would agree with me on this. And don’t let me start with the food. I went through heavy rain, navigating through the infamous Penang drivers and finding the ever hard parking slot on the land of overcrowding island, just to be presented with the dimsum that feels like I tapau that and brought home 2 hours ago. Is that steamer just for sure I wonder. The drinks are so ceroi, it was the first time i am unable to finish any drink I ordered. The rest of the menu I don’t know and I don’t want to care to order after the initial sampling of their dimsum.
If you find this place good, don’t let me sway ur faith. But this would be my first and last...
Read moreIncredible value for money, and very tasty and accessible dim sum and Penang food!
Halal friendly, and very wallet friendly - we ordered 7 plates of their assorted dimsum. You can grab your own dimsum from the steamer. They were all quite authentic to traditional dimsum - with hargao, siew mai, etc. however, everything is made and filled with fish/chicken paste, so the textures of each dish is quite unique! Super hearty and warm, the dimsum was really just simple bold flavours.
The favourite was the salted egg yolk custard bun - very soft and sweet bun, with generous fillings of salted egg yolk. 🤘🏼
We also ordered the Penang Char Kway Teow. Halal as well, but boasting very comforting flavours. Soft noodles with great flavour, I think there were even clams in it for a surprise bite. Very delicious!
The down side was only that their drinks and teas were very sweet. But easily fixed if you just request for less sugar.
