Buffet price looked reasonable at first then we found out that above 130cm, children would still be charged at adult prices. So extra MYR 30++ for any child that is tall but doesn't eat a lot, is NOT a good deal.

Food choices were wide and varied but for some, quality was poor and not worth serving at all due to lack of freshness. Soup was very bland at first and only had a bit more flavor when we added some lemongrass from a tom-yum soup upgrade.

Service is poor with not much explanation and almost grumpy faces. I had no clue that the pork fat to be smeared/melted over the BBQ surface, was served and ended up with a charred mess after cooking some seasoned chicken with sauce.

At one point our soup refill ran out and our remaining soup nearly boiled to a chat before the staff finally gave us a refill.

All in all, mookata is a poor dining concept if you're not experienced or eating with other people whom are capable of cooking on their own. It has somewhat "deteriorated " over the last two years as a result of the lockdown. Staff are all newbies - uninterested, unenthusiastic to serve and would just prefer to hide in a corner playing with their mobiles. Cabbage tastes stale... it is dry and has the stale flavor and smell The soup base has gone very thin, almost like water Meat and veggy portions have gone smaller and the freshness is no longer evident. Dipping sauce is diluted and has no taste portfolio. The only saving grace is the chopped garlic and lime juice condiment. At least the glass of cold water we ordered is large, good amount of ice cubes and filtered water. They used to give pieces of pork lard to oil the fryer, but have changed it to margarine. No idea why the reviews are good. Notice a lot of reviewers, esp the Malaysian ones, write reviews to make a good profile instead of actually writing proper critical reviews that are useful.

They use a mookata style hotplate but it's not mookata. But it's also not korean, mala, etc.

Super plain, and the flavoured stuff is extremely mediocre. The sauce is thai-ish but again it's mediocre. The gassy drinks are always flat. I got my first cup replaced, but the ones after that are also flat, so I was like, forget it.

Only upside is the buffet is affordable, the place is clean, and the staff are generally competent.

But there's absolutely no reason to visit any bar.b.q plaza outlets if you're looking for good food.

Do yourself a favour and go to the Guo Ma Taiwanese steamboat buffet instead if you're at paradigm mall. It's not a BBQ, but they have infinitely better sauce, meats, extras, and...
