Da Cheng Lok Lok (KSL): A Vibrant and Affordable Dining Experience (4/5 Stars) Rating: • Food Quality: 4/5 (Good lok lok skewers, delicious wantan mee, and signature mee pok. The barbecue could use a bit more charring for enhanced flavor.) • Ambiance: 4/5 (Lively and casual atmosphere, reminiscent of a bustling Asian night market) • Value: 5/5 (Affordable prices, making it a great option for a casual and budget-friendly meal) Overall: 4/5 Da Cheng Lok Lok is a popular spot in Johor Bahru, offering a wide variety of delicious and affordable food, all under one roof. It's more than just a lok lok stall. They have a fantastic selection of barbecue, stingray, noodles like wantan and signature mee pok, and even a tempting dessert selection, including our traditional ice kacang. They even have a selection of beers, like Tiger, Heineken, and Blanc 1664. Donkey and I were at KSL and my friend was visiting Malaysia, so we decided to arrange a meet-up for dinner. We walked around the KSL shopping centre and stumbled upon Da Cheng Lok Lok, intrigued by its vibrant atmosphere. The space is mostly indoors, but they also offer outdoor seating, and they're happy to help you set up a table if you prefer to dine al fresco. We were drawn to the bustling space, filled with red tables where people were enjoying their meals and socializing. The atmosphere was lively and casual, like a busy Asian night market, even though we were indoors. We decided to go for it, and we were happy we did. My friend and her husband joined us, and we all decided to order some lok lok skewers. We also tried their wantan mee and their signature mee pok. Of course, no dinner is complete without a couple of beers to share. While the lok lok was good, the price was reasonable, and the variety was excellent, we felt that the barbecue could use a bit more charring to enhance the flavors. Other than that, we had a great time at Da Cheng Lok Lok. Overall, Da Cheng Lok Lok is a lively and vibrant place with a great atmosphere. It's a fantastic option for a casual and affordable meal, offering a wide variety of dishes to satisfy every craving. Plus, they accept Touch 'n Go, which is always a plus.

I’ve tried the lok lok before, but I wasn’t too impressed. Surprisingly, the wanton mee and bak kut teh were the stars, at least for me. The noodle was the thinner version, but it kept its al dente texture well, without a hinge of the alkaline taste. Kudos to the cook for doing a great job. The dark soy sauce and aromatic pork lard coated each strand of the noodle, paired with both the fried and boiled wanton, every mouthful was a delight. The bak kut teh has a herbal soup, without being overpowering. I just wished that they could skim off more oil so that it would be more enjoyable. One can add on different ingredients, and the price range was reasonable. Nothing much to shout out for the pork cutlet. It looked very different from the photo, and was on the dryer side, possibly due to over frying and the 0.5cm thickness. The place is conveniently located near ksl. Do expect a big crowd at night when patrons flocked here for the lok lok. Ample seats are available, but not having an aircon to enjoy the food can make it rather uncomfortable in this hot weather.

Atmosphere There is nothing much to comment. It is a causal dining place with ample tables before 8pm. Service Super fast once paid Food Great variety compared to Singapore. But what I really enjoyed is the different frying oil used. Everything is crispy and offers a different experience. Sauce There are like 8 different sauces including some special ones like satay sauce, condense milk, spicy kicap Manis Recommendation All the vegetables, mushroom all the tofu products. Not recommended Satay skewers.-- expensive. I think these are better off bbq. Price About 70 RM eat until full for a late dinner. About 40 skewers. Considered expensive for a bunch of cheap ingredients, but in the KSL zone all cater to tourists, 2 pax 70RM is quite normal. Probably the most satisfying meal that day. Impossible to get this variety and quality in SG. The oil used is different altogether. Friends commented that the various food trucks that open after 7pm are better and cheaper. The next trip perhaps. We would return.

Hope my honest review will help. I visited the place twice. First encounter my order was RM$99 not sure how they calculated. Anyway I thought of giving it a try after seeing the review online. Went home there were 2 to 3 missing items but I let it go giving them the benefit of doubt that they may accidentally omitted out my order. This is my 2nd visit today and not affected by the first encounter. I specifically ask the staff to help to ensure my orders are correct as I explained to them what happen on my last visit. As I am worried that they may missed out the item again, I did my best to highlight at least 3 times. To my dismay, this time round was worst and even ridiculous than my first order. I paid RM69 for the items and yet they gave me another person order. All the items I took were not inside the package. Before I took over the item, I even asked the staff whether is this the correct number tag and even show him the tag. I was totally disappointed because the food was not what I have ordered and what was inside was nothing that I want to eat and definately the number of sticks was less than half of what I ordered. I really hope that the owner/boss can look into this feedback. Food - Average. Service - cannot expect much Quality - Below average Price - Average but not cheap either Verdict - Will not return again Hopefully will look for new and better ones...
