3rd visit but 1st time trying. First time visited at 6pm+ and was told the wait was about 2-3 hours so I left. Second time visited and it was closed and this time finally got to eat. Visited on a Sunday this time and it wasn't as packed as a Saturday. Also I came 30 minutes before 5 and I was number 4 in queue. Could just sit and wait until they call us to come to the order area. Quite a lot of seafood to choose from, but decided not to overeat and so we tried to order just a few. The recommendation has to be the stingray so we ordered it. Then we had the ginger lala and the original crayfish. Also ordered a fried noodles. Food took quite a while to come so we chose a table under the fan and enjoyed a cold drink while waiting for food to be served. Waited about 20 minutes and first dish served was the stingray and the rest also were served within a short while. You don't really get to pick the size of the items you just tell them the number of people and they try to estimate the size accordingly. A little disappointed the stingray was a bit small for 2. Had to say was quite impressed with the food. There isn't a bit where I felt it wasn't up to my standards. The stingray meat was so tender and juicy and the sambal on it was really the bomb. Really good dish and loved it a lot. The lala was good, of the entire dish only 1 was wasn't opened. The sauce was good and wished we ordered rice to go with it. The noodles were quite interesting too. I read it was supposed to be sambal noodles but it didn't taste spicy at all and it resembled the taste of char kwey teow. The crayfish was a surprise because I was expecting it to be dry and tasteless but it was the exact opposite where the meat was so tender and sweet. Never had so good and fresh seafood for a long time. The other surprise and must do here has to be ordering the popiah. It definitely doesn't look like one because it is wrapped in seaweed, and the taste is so unique it felt like the popiah was wrapped with KFC coleslaw. Don't exactly know how to describe but it's an enjoyable experience eating it, especially with the crunchy bits. Very enjoyable meal and I was telling myself I need to come back again. Food was good and prices are reasonable so now I know why there are such long queues at this place. Highly...
Read more10 Nov 2023 It's my first time dining here. My friends recommended this place to me. From the outside you can see a lot of people queueing. Once you arrive you need to go inside and order, then the waitress will tell you that you need to wait for 1 hour, really then u need to wait for 1 hour. Due to my friend's recommendation I must eat this although I need to wait for an hour. Very fast the waitress call you there's a table for us. Then order drink 1st, my drink finishes before the dish is served on table, then I have to order a second drinks 😂🤣 After 1 hour our food is finally served, the ikan bakar pari very fresh, the sambal very delicious, open my appetite, then I eat 2 plate rice, it's my first time eat 2 plate rice since I'm not a 饭桶(fan tong). Read moreSince I'm travelling alone, it's hard to sample everything TAMPIN has to offer. Came recommended in a few YouTube videos, and the Google rating is above 4, I thought I'd give TAMPIN a shot. And, my shot hit the bull's eye. 😁
1.5hrs wait though, on a Saturday night at 8.30pm. I wasn't too worried since I had YouTube accompanying me. And, it was well worth the wait. 😁
Totalling RM 120, my dinner was a steal. I had to pick the fresh iced seafood and veggies first, and waited for my number to be called, to be first seated, and then wait further until my choices arrived:
1/2 of a Black Grouper 2 medium-sized Crayfish 1 small Potato Leaves 1 small Kang Kong 1 small Mee Goreng 2 tall drinks
Flavourful, not salty and the char over the banana leaves came through. SHIOK!!! SEDAP!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My only gripe was that I had hungry envious customers seated at tables left, right, front and back watching me eat whilst they waited for theirs... I could actually feel their hunger pangs screaming in my ears! 😂😂😂
The ladies who took orders spoke good English and Mandarin, and all the servers were courteous and attentive. 👍👍👍
I'll definitely be back again, when next in JB. TAMPIN is not to be missed! Hopefully, not...
