Chicken Chop with Mushroom Sauce = RM18.50 Final Total incl Tax = RM19.60
This place is a Cafe/Restaurant and even on a Thursday at 1300hrs, it was quite packed with people. Do note, there will be a small plate of Peanuts on the Table. This is NOT Complimentary. If you don't want it, please let the Server know, or this will be charged in your Final Bill. I appreciate that the Server at least told me in advance about this.
The Fried Chicken Chop itself is impressive but not as mind-blowing as I initially thought. Although Fried, its not greasy, not Overly Fried. Just the Nice Level of Fried. The Chicken Chop uses Thigh meat, Plump and Juicy and the most distinctive thing I could taste was that they used Maggie Seasoning Sauce to Marinate it. This made it distinctively Flavourful.
The Mushroom Sauce however I felt was just so so. It tastes quite bland and i think it is because they don't use Five Spice Powder. Our Singapore version taste nicer compared to this. Potato Wedges at the side feels Store-Bought and was Cold and somewhat Mushy. The Coleslaw was also nothing special.
But the WORST aspect wasn't the Food. When the Server first came to me, he was very friendly, smiling from ear to ear. However when he realized I don't want the Plate of Peanuts and never ordered any Drinks or any other Items, I could notice his face immediately changed from Friendly to Irritated. Change Face So Fast. Immediately could see his irritated face appear. I swear I wasn't disrespectful or did anything bad to him.
Even when I went to the cashier to pay, the cashier also gave a very noticeable irritated face when handling my bill. This meal felt damn uncomfortable tbh. Maybe it was me, but compared to several other Food Stalls I had been to prior to this where I had also not ordered alot of items, the vibe at IT Roo felt hostile. Other than the initial Fake Smile that quickly faded, there was never a Single Smile from the Staffs here ever again.
I do not recommend this place. The staffs here made me feel very unwelcome. There are other friendlier places and better foods to eat in...
Read moreCome to Johor Bahru and very likely you will see this restaurant as one of the recommended places to eat. Knowing this could possibly be a touristy eatery, I decided to visit nonetheless. I came in the evening and there were much lesser people compared to the daytime I reckon. They offered both indoor and outdoor seatings. The indoor came with very simple decorations emulating kopitiam interior of the past. I ordered a plate of their famous deep fried chicken chop and I opted for their black pepper sauce. I also got a plate of their koay teow cantonese which was basically a wat tan hor. Food didn't take long to be ready and the chicken chop did look rather sizeable with chunks of potato wedges and coleslaw on the side. The chicken chop was prepared with a standard coating of batter which had some light crisp. The chicken meat was tender and moist. The black pepper sauce was decent although I hardly had any taste of black pepper. The chunks of wedges weren't like your typical fries because instead of pillowy soft, the wedges gave a little bit of a tougher texture. Overall this dish scored an average at best in my opinion. Let's talk about the koay teow cantonese. The gravy was of a gooey slurry consistency which is expected with this dish. However I felt that it lacked taste and aroma. Thankfully the koay teow had a stronger aroma with hints of wok fried goodness. Having said that, I still thought that this dish was not the best and I would suggest to give it a skip. This experience here had satisfied my curiosity for their famed food but the overall average taste left me with no urge...
Read moreThis joint was highly recommended by one of my friend in JB. So, I decided to drop by this corner lot restaurant somewhere near the JB City Square. It was about 7pm on a Friday, so there was plenty of space available. You can sit in the indoor air-conditioned area or the outdoor open area here. The ambiance is really good, potrays the olden Western diner concept. It was not hot at all, the air-conditioning was excellent. Staff were quick, prompt and attentive. Service was excellent, the food came in no time (about 7 minutes after ordering). The chicken chop was perfectly fried, not too dry. But the small issue I had was there were small bones and I had to weed them out. The homemade mushroom sauce compliments well with the chicken. Coleslaw hits the spot as well, but the wedges was dry and hard. Probably need to improve on the wedges. The fried rice was decent, but the RM8 price tag is really expensive. The drinks as well can be cheaper. Pricing overall is a bit steeper, but the food quality was good enough to earn those price tags. Drinks probably not worth the price. Parking can be a...
