After our Klang Heritage Walk conducted by Tourism Selangor (Product Department), we had lunch at Restoran Yap Kee Banana Leaf Rice. After giving them excellent marks in my earlier visits here, sadly, today's meal was way below par. Both the fried chicken and Tengirri fish weren't tasty at all! The chicken was hard and the inside looked not so as well cooked as the outside, probably because it was cooked when partly frozen. They couldn't cope with the big crowd? Change of cook? Whatever the reason, the restaurant should always maintain its high standard of food.
The Klang Heritage Walk was splendid but the food a big letdown.
JULY 2017. At about 12.30pm on a Tuesday, the restaurant became full and there were some customers waiting for seats. The restaurant occupied an old two storey shop lot of only about 14 feet width, thus the number of tables was limited - only about 12.
The curry mutton, deep fried Tenggiri fish, pampadam and cabbage (cooked with spices) were delicious. The fish was fresh and well marinated with spices. The pampadam, cabbage and rice were standard food items served on the banana leaf.
Indian food served by Restoran Ghuhan was the only food available in this Chinese coffee shop.
It seemed Yap, the owner of the shop, said his grandfather had rented the space in the shop to the banana leaf rice stall owner for the...
Read moreVery old Banana leaf restaurant that used to serve nice Fried Chicken, Fried Fish, curry Chicken and curry fish. But curry Chicken and Curry fish were not in the menu when I was there. The Curry were not so fragrant anymore and waiters were very stingy on the Vegetable and Top ups. Got to take the Papadam & Curry myself as request runs a deft ear. There’s a big pot of Rasam But were never served. Guess you need to DIY.
They have excellent ACAR but also DIY
Fried chicken were still consistent but sorry to say the rest were below par.
I believe it’s their 3rd generation In command now as I don’t see the old ones anymore.
Their drinks are still consistent as the old boss still serves his concoctions
DIY ( do it yourself or self service )
However it’s a good experience to plough your fingers into the hot...
Read moreFrills free traditional banana leaf rice- you get a protein of your choice (fish/ chicken/ both), stir fried cabbage and papadams. I personally prefer the fried fish, especially when it’s fresh out of the kitchen- superbly marinated, the skin was flavourful while the fish meat was suitably juicy and flaky on the inside. The size of the fish was large and generously sliced.
The fried chicken was good too though was a tad over-fried, and tough - go for the drumstick instead of the breast meat portion.
In terms of the curry sauce - I prefer the chicken curry sauce. However the fish curry sauce is good too (matter of personal preference).
The prices are great - RM6 per fish or chicken (in KL/ PJ, at banana leaf establishments, you would probably get it for double the price and half...
