Ho Kow Hainam Kopitiam is the old style Chinese coffee house that serves the old days memories to the modern day customers. The design of the outlet was kept with the traditional style architectural Chinatown shophouses with the traditional style of brewing coffee as well as the traditional ambience of Chinese coffee house. The menu that they offers was also the long lasted favourite of Chinese breakfast dishes: toast bread, steamed egg, dim sum, nasi lemak, hor fun soup, curry noodle, and other menus as well as the traditional brewed tea or coffee and other drinks. Taste of the food was good. Food serving speed was ok. Portion was standard. Pricing was moderate. During breakfast peak hours, queue was expected. There was a queue number machine where customers could pick up their queue number and waited to be called. While waiting, menu book could be viewed and order could be made. The staff provided fast and warm service. Payment could be made by cash and electronic modes. If you drive, road side parking spaces were available nearby and in front of the outlet. Or else, carpark was available at the hotel in front of the kopitiam. If you take e-hailing service, just look for the kopitiam directly. If you take MRT/LRT service, just alight at Pasar Seni station of LRT Kelana Jaya Line or MRT Kajang Line. Ho Kow Hainam Kopitiam was located less than 5 minutes walk from MRT Pasar Seni Exit A.

Went at 1030am, having a moderate queue lenght, dint have to wait long thou. They have a systematic queue system. Food is above my expectations, the halfboiled eggs are perfectly boiled. I enjoyed both the nasi lemak ayam and the chicken horfun, both are priced above average but portion are very very generous. Ordered the regular toast with butter n kaya, Would definitely leave space to try out other types of toasts (buns and croissant). The coffees n drinks are must try. Exquisitely made in glass portions, not ready made big jugs(you can differentiate this by looking at the milky broth topping) Although busy with staff and patrons going in and out, Dining environment is spacious n clean. I was expecting difficulty looking for a parking hence i came here via MRT. Location is about 5mins walk frm pasar seni MRT station. Special mention and credit to ah kaw, the founder, he is a very friendly, humble and down to earth uncle. Well into his golden age, he tries to serve all his patrons with warm service n smile, and although their shop hav many staffs, he always try to do things personally like cleaning up the empty tables etc.

Everyone who travels to Petaling Street or KL Chinatown for breakfast or brunch would have known this hainanese restaurant with a highly rated and an almost legendary reputation. I was deterred many times to visit because of the long queue which is a guarantee here. It also didn't help when the parking here is so limited and because of that, one has to opt for the expensive parking in the area. Today happened to to be that day where I convinced myself to face these challenges just so I could finally try the food myself and confirm if it lives up to its gigantic status. We were first met with a queue but luckily, it was moving fast. Upon seated, we were given the menu and I must say that the choices of food were decent but could have included curry noodles at least. We ordered the nasi lemak with ayam goreng, kaya and butter roti bakar, signature hot cham and hot kopi. It didn't take long for the food to arrive so they could maximise on their customers turnaround. The nasi lemak rice was fragrant, grainy and I can certainly taste the sweetness and the coconut milk aroma. The sambal was sweet, wasn't exactly spicy and I love the crunchy onion chunks. I was also pleased with the fried anchovies or ikan bilis as it was light but crunchy and tasted freshly made. All seemed to be well prepared but then I was completely let down when I tried the ayam goreng. The rempah wasn't aromatic and the chicken wasn't flavorfully marinated and it also wasn't crispy. Frankly I couldn't quite put my finger on the flavors here. The moist and tender chicken meat were the plus points but those alone couldn't redeem the ayam goreng itself from the underwhelming taste. The roti bakar was pretty standard and so were the half boiled eggs. The hot kopi and cham were good. I enjoyed the velvety smooth texture and richness of both hot drinks. All that said, I personally do not think that I will revisit. The food wasn't terrible but rather average at best. Now would I endure the long queue and horrible parking just to have an average meal? I think you can decide for yourself on that.

Ho Kow Restaurant, a historical gem established in 1956. The ambiance and atmosphere were truly remarkable, offering a nostalgic charm that transports you back in time. The decor and setting create a perfect backdrop for a memorable dining experience. However, I found the food to be somewhat disappointing. Despite the rich history and inviting ambiance, the dishes did not meet my expectations in terms of flavor and presentation. It’s worth noting that the service was excellent; the staff were attentive and friendly, contributing positively to the overall experience. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit, especially for tourists looking to soak in some local history and enjoy the unique atmosphere. For locals, though, it might not be the best culinary destination. On the plus side, the prices are fair, making it an accessible option for those wanting to experience a piece of history. Overall, I had a good experience, primarily due to the ambiance and service. While the food could use some improvement remains a charming spot that offers a taste of the past.

Authentic local kopithiam foods. Take the queuing number from machine, they will call for your number for the table. We were visited with 8 persons and waited for 60min (1 hour) just for the table even thought I was there around 7.45am for take numbering que for the table dine in on Saturday. Not suitable for a crowed to dine in as waiting time is too long and not to say super good taste on the foods. NOT worth to wait for 1 hour just to try their foods. Noted if 2 to 4 persons numbering of que are run faster (get the table also faster). We had our table on 2nd floor; mind the stair as it was steep. You may also decide to order & take away. Foods taste overall slightly above average but some are just so so. The coffee if fragrant, rich and is a must for coffee lovers. The Hainanese bread toast (Kaya + Butter) delicious. The Yam cake taste rich of yam. Service – provided standard normal service. Some foods served are a bit slow, probably due to the peak hours with crowded. Can be reach by LRT/MRT (Pasar Seni station, walk about 600-700m (about 7-8min).

So we came across some good Kopitiam in KL but we choose to go here. When we were looking for parking, we thought, it’s too crowded and not sure of the waiting time. Should we give a try or not. End up, we parked our car and went to give it a try. They have such a good waiting system. They also have menu card with order sheet beside the number machine. Press on the machine to get your number and grab a menu together with the order sheet. You can look for what to order and write it down. Then we got seated, the waiting time was roughly 15 minutes. We waited another 15-20 minutes for our food. Their Nasi Lemak with fried chicken was sooo good. Ofc we had to order their best kaya butter toast and half boiled eggs. We also order honey lemon to which they were not stingy with the honey, but it’s a little sweet for me. Their tea taste amazing. The prices were reasonable. We even bought their pandan kaya which proves how good it was. Highly recommending this place. Go early, as the queue starts to get crazy later. Overall it was worth the wait and hype.
