Levain is housed in a refurbished old bungalow with classy and cozy interiors. They provide indoor and outdoor seating areas, ideal for all types of meals – from a laid-back breakfast/brunch session, hearty lunch, sudden sugar cravings and dinner outings too. It is a spacious cafe with plenty of tables, though parking lots are very limited. The parking fee is RM 3.00 per entry which is quite affordable for the Bukit Bintang area. Parking attendants are helpful and they provide valet services if parking within the premises is full.
Levain is known for their breads and pastries. They have a wide selection of bake goods such as croissants, danish at affordable price. I especially enjoyed their croissants and cream puff! They serve hot meals too – loved their mushroom soup, pizzas, and truffle mushroom pasta (vegetarian-friendly). They use wheat pasta which is a healthier choice. I know it is tough to love whole wheat pasta due to its texture, however, the combination of rich truffle flavor, mushroom sauce, sliced mushroom, and the chilis in this dish really complements the chewy wheat pasta. For drinks, hot chocolate was superb but coffee was so-so. Hot latte tasted okay but the hot mocha is a tad too sweet for my liking.
Service can be further improved especially on the counter service and building maintenance. Customers were asked to secure a table before ordering at the counter and once they are back at the counter, it’s going to take some time for them to think what to order and honestly nothing is more annoying than waiting in line while someone decides between the Bolognese pasta and the Aglio Olio one? On building maintenance, the outdoor seating area looks great but management can put more effort on pest control. There are mosquitos and I once saw a rat running through the garden – which was extremely unpleasant despite how picturesque...
Read moreThis place seemed to be one of Najwa's favorite places for breakfast, and I couldnt have agreed more!! This time around I had the Nasi Lemak, which was not bad at all, considering the 'french' influence...but I would actually recommend it to all. Najwa had the Dutch Baby pancake again, and Im really starting to like it as well...
We came here for brunch with Najwa and Hasz, and we were very lucky to be able to get a nice table at the Main Dining area.
"Boulangerie" and "Patisserie" are two of my most favorite french words when I took up French 101 & 102 in college, some 40 years ago..Due to my facination with the beautiful language, I had some how convinced my 3 children to take up French as their third language in secondary school...Now, they all claim that they speak better french than I do😱.....those ungrateful brats!!! Anyway, back to the main subject, two of them were with us yesterday for breakfast, and my son brought along his wife and son as well. We had a field day comparing our french accents, while enjoying some patisserie, with this being my grandson first outing together with us..we booked the outdoor seat, our own version of the parisien sidewalk cafe, as the weather was very nice and cooling, while protecting my grandson from the "Covid crowd" inside...I could tell he was also having the time of his life!! Well, could it be too early to teach him...
Read moreCoffee was okay (Americano), some house mix beans or whatever the barrister was mumbling. Nothing special, it's like stronger Nescafé gold. Macaroon tested was nice at around RM4+ a piece but tbh it's overrated. Parking inside costs you RM3 even with the CMCO so beware! Payment had issues with paywave and pin as well despite its location. Limited inside seating and when almost half the tables were 'booked', getting forced outside with construction next door with fumigation was not a pleasing experience. Another disappointment was when ordering at the cashier, we were told to get a table. Did that and waited for nothing to happen. Had to return to cashier and was informed they needed a table number before ordering. I mean just take the order and ask the table later? It's not a huge cafe to traverse especially when it seems there are only around 20'ish tables. Branding and initial location looks posh but when you delve deeper inside, you realise it mostly a masquerade. You would get better value easily at your nearest Starbucks along with better aromas compared to this place.
2 stars is the best I can offer for its decoration, display and common coffee flavours. Plus side is they use...
