We have been long time fans of Niko Neko Matcha since we discovered them at a coffee/tea exhibition years ago, and have been ordering their powders online. We were excited when they opened the concept stores and decided to come here to try the desserts and utilize the coupon we received from our recent online purchase. At first look, the store's minimalist concept is pleasing to the eyes and has a clean, modern look. They display many of their products at the front corner and has a bowl collection on the other side which makes it feel a little museum-like. We came here for the cultivar series, and to try as many desserts we could. We are very happy with the drinks (despite the little amount) and would happily recommend the Mini Yuri Burnt Cheesecake and the Choux cream. We even bought the box of 9 pieces of cookies to try and loved them all. There were 3 cookie flavors and our fave is Genmaicha (the Biscoff Houjicha was a little too sweet for our taste). So as far as the food and beverages go, I'd happily rate 5 star. However, I have to say I am a little less impressed with the in-store experience here. Though it has ample space, the layout is not space-efficient, and makes me feel not at ease while dining here. There is one order counter, and the pick up place is on the other end. The menu is only available on the order counter and you can only browse through once you're placing the order. This causes the long queue because let's face it, a lot of the orders here are a novelty to many of us, so a lot of people take a long time to consult and decide on their order. My suggestion is to make more menu lists available so the people in line can have a look while waiting for their turn. Thankfully we came before the crowd so we didn't have to wait at all but seeing other people having to queue, wait for a long time and crowd at one side was a little uncomfortable, especially as our table was directly facing the line. The table was also very small and flimsy. Everytime a customer walked from the order counter to the pick up point, we had to guard the food and drinks because there wasn't much space for them to walk, and it would only take a careless movement to topple the glass drinks and plates over. I like that there is a system in place where the staff updates the stock immediately once customers make their orders so they can promptly let the next customers know the food availability. They also attempt to control the crowd buy imposing a one hour rule for every customer so that they can accommodate to more customers and no one gets to hog the limited tables. I like the system and understand why they need it in place, however, I'm disappointed that it took the staff a long time to get my order ready, even though there were only a few customers before us. I would understand if it's freshly cooked food, but the desserts are all ready-made so it doesn't make sense to have to wait that long. I also ordered the box of cookies for takeaway, but it took them 15 minutes to get my order ready. Imagine if you go in a large group and given the same one hour, but your order takes forever to be ready, how long do you actually have to savor your food before you're asked to leave? The staff was quite attentive and polite, but based on my experience yesterday, I don't think I'll visit again soon. I'm happy to just continue ordering their Matcha, Houjicha and Genmaicha powder online.

Ambiance: The calming atmosphere of provided the perfect backdrop for savoring a cup of their exquisite matcha lattes. The soft lighting and minimalist decor enhanced the overall experience. Presentation: The matcha latte was artfully presented. The vibrant green hue of the matcha was visually appealing, and the frothy layer on top added a touch of elegance. Flavor: The Kiku matcha latte delivered a harmonious blend of earthy undertones and a subtly sweet finish. The balance between bitterness and sweetness showcased the quality of the matcha used in the preparation. Sadly "Ren" was sold out. Texture: The velvety smooth texture of the drink was a delight to the palate. It maintained a consistent thickness throughout, making each sip a luxurious experience and has the umami ummph. Temperature: Served at the perfect temperature, the Kiku matcha latte was neither too hot nor too cold, allowing for immediate enjoyment without the need for waiting. Service: The staffs were knowledgeable about their matcha offerings and provided friendly, attentive service. The drink arrived promptly, and the server was happy to answer any questions about the preparation process. Overall Experience: Indulging in the matcha latte at Niko Neko was a serene escape from the hustle and bustle. The meticulous attention to detail in presentation, combined with the exceptional flavor profile, makes it a standout choice for matcha enthusiasts. Final Verdict: Niko Neko has mastered the art of crafting a matcha drink that not only tantalizes the taste buds but also provides a moment of tranquility in every sip. Highly recommended for those seeking a matcha haven in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Definitely zero bullsh*t.

So, I found myself at Niki Neko Matcha during a trip to KL with my influencer friend, who was all about trying this Instagram-famous spot. He was totally into it & couldn’t stop talking about it for hours, but for me… well, let’s just say my expectations might have been too high… that I found my experience a bit of a mixed bag. First off, the matcha was just decent—not too bad, but definitely not the high-quality matcha I was hoping for. It was a way too powdery for my taste, which left me feeling like I was sipping on a matcha-flavored sand (and not in a good way). But hey, maybe I’m just picky! 🤣 Now, if you’re all about the ‘Gram, this place is a visual feast. The packaging is on point, and the whole aesthetic vibe is like something out of a Pinterest board. 5/5 for the look, for sure. It’s clear why people queue up just to snap a pic and say they’ve been there (or, as my friend would put it, to ‘打卡’). As for the price, it’s reasonable, especially given the shop’s popularity online. But the long waiting times were a downside; it felt like we were waiting forever. Maybe it’s just me, but after spending that much time in line, I expected a little more. Overall, Just be prepared for a wait and manage your expectations accordingly! if you’re in the area and have 20-30 minutes to spare for a queue, it might be worth it for the aesthetics and to see what all the fuss is about. But if you’re like me and looking for a mind-blowing matcha experience, you might end up feeling a bit… meh.

I was there on Deepavali public holidays around 4ish, the place wasn't busy, and we doesn't need to queue on the street. The setup shows the owner has put a lot of emphasis into the design over the usable space. The almost one quarter of the shop is dedicated space for tea arts appreciation. You get a sense of calm and quiet here, very often, you hear more noise from the staffs than the customers. Good to know their keep to very straight SOP of social distancing starting from ordering. Counter service was not pleasant. It's my first time there and the way to order wasn't explained nicely, but instrctionly and rush, and they do not take time to tell you the product, or offer help to pick a drink that suits the customer better. I noticed they have a lot of staffs around the counters and only two were preparing drinks. To speed up the ordering process, perhaps they should help staff helping customers ordering when they in the queue before the counter. I ordered their Kiku macha with fresh milk, and a set of their two tiny pieces cake to share. The price of their macha drink was alright. The cakes were priced a little bit too high and was a little of a let down. I probably won't be going back to any of their branch for their beverage, perhaps only to check out the nice interior.

Visually speaking, it is a very aesthetic place, very good for photos. Interior is very minimalistic and clean. As for the staff, they were wonderful. Very polite and very kind. My cousin and I were one of the earliest customers to the shop and we were very clumsy as we were very new to the environment. The lady cashier working in the morning today (2/11/2023) was very helpful in giving us suggestions on their menu. There was another male staff, whom I did not manage to catch the name of, who helped us out when we dropped our cutleries. We had a Ajisai and Tsubaki Choux and they were good. Personally, sweetness was just right. Could tastes the strong taste of matcha, not so much of sweetness. Plenty of filling and very crispy exterior. Although I would appreciate having more hazelnut in the Ajisai. Many of the matcha drinks were sold out and there was only one option: the Asanoka. We had it with fresh milk and it was good. We also had a Tsubaki mini burnt cheesecake but we heard that it was a limited edition. It was indeed mini but it was filling. It was a good recommendation and we enjoyed it very much. Overall, if you're looking for a good matcha place, I highly recommend this Cafe. In addition, environment and staff are top-tier.

Close to KL central, Chinatown sits a dessert bar made of matcha. They use authentic matcha from specific parts of Japan and further their appreciation with tastes profiles on their menu. The staff were very knowledgeable and proceeded to recommend something of mid or low bitterness. We got 2 drinks Akane Hojicha and Signature matcha, both with fresh milk and sugar. The matcha drink tasted strong and had a thick, creamy consistency with the milk. Minimal ice used. We also got this really tasty croissant with creamy matcha (chocolate) and freeze dried raspberry. It was the better dessert compared to the Matcha tiramisu tart. The tart was creamy with a soft matcha purée. On a charcoal tart. You need to pair it with a some tart for it to be delicious. The croissant was much sweeter and the croissant had a harder, crispy texture when bitten. Like a large flaky biscuit. There was gold flakes on it too. Would recommend it!!! Would really like if there were more seats to enjoy our desserts. Everything was quite strong so do take them slowly and separately.
