From a standing start in 2021, this brand has leapfrogged and expanded exponentially in KL, PJ and Johore, with 7 branches in KL and PJ alone. Each outlet packed with customers queueing to get in come near peak hours. This is all very surprising since there seem to be no long-standing tradition of business going back years (like Nam Heong and Kluang Station etc..) and years but something (perhaps thought off in an MBA business strategy thesis on “How to build and sustain a brand!”). The outlet in TRX is modern and bright, with various configuration of seating numbers. A long queue was in already formed, although it was still a few minutes to lunch hour (12 pm). The total time spent in the queue was about 42 minutes. A lot has to be said about the way the outlet handles and clears the queue, the queue management is below par, whether by design or accident; there was an empty table (which could seat 3 paxs on my left as we were waiting in line. This was not occupied despite the long line for about 20 minutes. Finally, it transpired that it was “reserved” for a group of 7 pax and was waiting for an adjourning table of 4 to vacate before seating the whole group! Finally, as we were about to finish our meal, there were 4 empty tables on my left not being occupied. In most places with long queues, as soon as the table is cleared, the next guests should already be ushered to the table asap! Anyway, I digress. We ordered the Oriental Fried Chicken Meat Mee Siam, Nanyang Curry Chicken, Fruit Rojak and for drinks; Oriental Iced Mocha and Oriental Kopi (plus butter), plus take-away of Egg Tarts and Belgian Royal Chocolate Egg Tarts. The Mee Siam was served on top of a small piece of banana leaf (to add flavor?). The mee had generous cuts of deboned fried chicken (marinated in kunyit), a half-boiled egg, slices of cucumber, a small dollop of sambal and lime to add to taste. The taste of the mee was tasty and slightly sweetish, tangy and fresh. The yolk of the egg was half runny and added another dimension to make it even more savory. Sambal and lime, is added, as personal preferences. The curry chicken was thick and appetizing, not spicy at all and well balances with the spices. Chicken pieces were also generous. The fruit Rojak was a disappointment, the rojak sauce was too liberally used and was too sweet for my liking, such that it overcame the taste of the various fruits and condiments of the rojak. Between the normal Egg Tart and the premium Belgian Chocolate one, just choose the normal one. It is not worth the premium for the added taste of the chocolate, which is a distraction to the originality of the Egg Tart! The menu is pretty extensive and covers a lot of ground and will require several visits. That, if only they manage the...
Read moreI recently visited Oriental Kopi in TRX and ordered their Oriental Egg Tart and Meehun Siam for breakfast. Despite the café being quite crowded, the experience was still pleasant, as the atmosphere was well-managed, and the staff kept things running smoothly.
The Oriental Egg Tart was a real treat. The pastry was flaky and buttery, with a creamy, perfectly sweet egg custard inside. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that the tart is so flaky it can be a bit messy to eat! It’s worth it, but be prepared for a few crumbs here and there. The tart was warm and freshly made, adding an extra level of enjoyment to every bite.
The Meehun Siam was equally delightful, with a generous portion and an authentic balance of flavors and squeeze calamansi lime for soury taste. It had just the right hint of spice of sambal without being too overpowering. It reminded me of the Meehun Siam I’d find at traditional eateries, which was a nice nostalgic touch.
The ambiance in the TRX branch is cozy and modern, creating a comfortable space to enjoy breakfast. Even with the crowd, the service was friendly and efficient, and the staff ensured everyone was well taken care of.
Overall, Oriental Kopi in TRX maintains the high quality I’ve come to expect from their branches. The egg tart and Meehun Siam were both delicious, and the bustling yet manageable atmosphere added to the experience. If you’re craving classic Malaysian breakfast items with a bit of a modern touch, this branch is definitely...
Read moreVisited Oriental Kopi at TRX recently and overall, it’s a great blend of modern ambiance and nostalgic Malaysian flavors.
🍽️ Food: • The egg tart is a must-try! Flaky crust with creamy custard served warm and fresh. • Their Oriental Kopi is thick, rich, and smooth a little sweet for some, but it really hits the spot if you love classic kopi. • Had the Nasi Lemak with Ayam Berempah fragrant rice, crispy chicken, and sambal with a nice kick. Portion was satisfying. • The Polo Bun was light and crunchy on the outside, soft inside great with butter and kaya. • Tried the Pan Mee too, but it was just okay broth could be richer.
🪑 Ambience & Service: Modern kopitiam vibes with a clean and cozy layout. Gets quite busy during lunch, but service is organized and quick. Staff were friendly and attentive.
💰 Price: A bit on the premium side for kopitiam-style food (expect RM15–RM30 per item), but fair considering the setting, location, and presentation.
⭐ Overall: ✅ Great place for brunch or a casual catch-up. ✅ Perfect if you love traditional Malaysian comfort food with a café twist. ❌ Slightly pricey if you’re used to regular kopitiams. Would definitely return for the egg tart and kopi combo!
