Al Sarifa is a mamak eatery through and through that tries serving malaysiana fare but not really hitting the spot for me. There are times the mamak mee goreng, maggi goreng, rotis (canai, thosai, capati and naan) are good and the next day, the same menu will be blah. Yes, its quality peaks and dips (at times really badly). The same fate goes to its ordered drinks. Obviously i do realise the cooks and drinks maker are not the same, yet i am still disappointed. And yes, mamak thoroughfare aint cheap. Should you need to use the washroom, do not expect anything else but... it is a latrine. This is one reason why i am not keen to go "ngeteh" with my mates at mamak joints.
There is salvation though from the makeshift satay stall guy who peddles satay daging kambing, lembu and ayam. The meats are marinated well, spiced just right leaving the meat tender and juicy. The peanut sauce that comes with your satay is decent. A pseudo-Siam corner offers patrons a relief should their palate not favour mamak dishes.
What i find incredible is the ability of the servers to look but not see, so you might be waving frantically they will still not notice you. I tend to believe it is a mamak server...

Then, I asked one of the other nearby staff directly and he seemed to wanna talk to me discreetly but I refused and left because I felt disgusted.
Just wanna share this to you guys as I witnessed this with my own eyes. God knows just how drinks the customers including myself have been drinking from this mamak which were totally unhygienic.
Additionally, you guys will also notice that the staff will totally ignore you whenever you're trying to order something. Some of them doesn't even have anything to do aside from chatting with each other.
Lastly, the cashier (most likely the supervisor) will never smile or at least have the courtesy to say thank you or you're welcome back. Totally unprofessional and rude.
*I've been eating here (most probably around 30-40 times) since it's one of the closest mamak nearby my home but I've decided to stop going there and share this experience for you guys to decide. I'd give 0...
Read moreMy friend and I had an awful experience at this restaurant this morning. It was 10:30 AM, well past the busy breakfast peak hours, and despite there being many empty tables, we had to wait 15 minutes before a staff member finally came to take our order. We tried to get the attention of three separate waiters and the staff at the cash counter, but they ignored us. When I walked up to the 2 waiters they did not look at me and avoided eye contact when I spoke to them. They were clearly trying to avoid taking my order. Their behavior was completely rude, unprofessional, and demonstrated a lack of basic customer service.
To make matters worse, they got our orders completely wrong:
I ordered two pieces of roti canai and hot tea, but was served one piece of roti canai and iced tea.
My friend ordered two pieces of tosai and hot coffee, but was served one piece of roti canai and hot tea.
The overall experience...
