[Duplicate review since this place has a duplicate listing on Google Maps. I recommend looking up "Curry Fish Head Pudu" for this business as well for additional reviews]
This place has been in existence for as long as I can remember. I've been here with my family as a kid and I'm still going there now. They've been nothing but consistent over the many years.
Curry fish head that is absolutely tasty and flavourful - and none of that curry powdery and sometimes bitter aftertaste. We've tried other curry fish head places before and this is the only place we keep coming back to. Boss is super friendly, sometimes there's a wait in line but you can usually get a table very quickly and even easier if you're here for early dinners. Other notable dishes are their ham yu fa lam bou, cold tofu and just about any other dish just feels like you're dining at home.
The clientèle and regulars that dine here are usually families and the elder generation, which is why I'm guessing that the one's who bother to write reviews for old school eateries are either 1. Only when they're unhappy with this place or 2. Folks who are probably not from the area or rarely come to Pudu—who can't comprehend what an institution this restaurant has been in the Pudu area, along with places like Sek Yuen, and the stalls in the nearby Wai Sek Gai. There's a lot of food history in this part of KL, and this place is a big part of that history. There's a reason this place has a wait for tables and a line on weekends - it's been around for a long time and sometimes people frequent places with meaning and nostalgia to them for that comfort food.
I recommend this place, but don't get your hopes up high for mind blowing food. It's not mind-blowing, earth-shattering food. It's a simple, home-cooking style, family-owned curry fish head restaurant serving up a tasty meal to feed generations of people in the heart of KL. Go in with this in mind, chat up the friendly boss man, and you'll have a much...
Read moreI last dined here 15 years ago. Then it operates a few shops away in a kopitiam environment and a side lane. I love their curry then. Now they have moved into this fully air cond shop. Parking is very difficult as it faces the main busy Jalan Pudu and no cars are allowed in front. There are rows of parking in the back lane. However mostly fully occupied. It is a back alley, quiet and dark. Safety could be a concern. After years I suspect the curry added with butter makes it creamy and sweet but very greasy. The fish head is big but with very little meat. The RM 82 cost is expensive for a medium size. The fried roast pork is tasty initially with the meat camarliaze from soya sauce and sugar. Eventually I found it a bit hard. The yau mai is normal. Don't think I...
Read moreMy first time here, very well as I hv commented before; One man's food is another man's poison.. To my taste, the Fish head curry was only so so, curry base thick most probably due to too much of santan or fresh milk and lack of curry spices aroma. Fried roasted pork, wow this is totally terrible, I rather eat it as roasted pork originally. La La.. ermm plain and normal. Bean sprouts.. erh.. I think any other restaurant can present a better one. Over all.. taste/quality/quantities only so so and most of all VERY VERY PRICY..(Luckily didn't order fish, prawns and squid) if in JB anytime with the same dishes, I think easily can get a better price and better quality of taste. Check it out yourself....
