Edit: yeah a generic, canned response and then a tone-deaf invitation to come back leaves a bad taste in my mouth. (especially after spending several hundred MYR at this business, but then again all customers should be treated well).
This place was a mainstay for a few months and I had planned on it being a mainstay for many more months, probably years to come, but alas, I wonāt be coming back. (More on that in a second). I was spending somewhere between RM400-500 here a month (not because they were my only option for similarly priced shisha/ ME food but because they were the easiest.)
Shisha is usually good, occasionally excellent, occasionally a bit underwhelming (also they could change the coals more often without having to flag them down). Food is good, although a bit inconsistent. But always good enough to come back for.
Anyway, one day I was heading for their happy hour, running late, and as I crossed the road 10 feet from the place, I checked my phone and it was 4:59 PM. I sorta laughed to myself āoh cool made happy hourā but was more joking with myself because everywhere Iāve been will honor happy hour within a few minutes.
So cool, made their happy hour or so I thought. I sat down, they took a few minutes to come over and take the order but thatās just life. (in hindsight, I think they dragged their feet so they could charge me full price).
When I went to pay my bill, I found out they charged me full price. I believed I made the happy hour time even if just barely at 5PM. I asked for the price and explained that I came in on the dot.
The lady behind the counter was A) rude about the whole thing, got argumentative, refused to budge, and B) pretty sure she was lying about some things. If I heard her correctly (was hard to hear), she was trying to claim I came in like half an hour after the happy hour, then later maybe only 10 minutes late (in terms of physics, it couldnāt have been more than like 1 minute).
Iāve noticed in the negative reviews the owner/business likes to argue or deflect with the reviewers. Maybe theyāll pull up the security tape and prove I did indeed walk in at 5:01 PM.
So what? Ultimately, customers get to vote with their wallets, and Iāll be voting with mine, which means Iām done with Royal Dream. I wonāt accept rudeness or nickel-and-diming, especially being a regular and given how much I had already spent there and how much I planned to spend going forward.
I do have to wonder, from a businessās point of view, was it really worth trading months/years and RM1000s/10,000s for 1 (alleged) minute and RM10? For Royal Dream, apparently the...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreI visited this restaurant at night for dinner, encouraged by the many positive reviews. Unfortunately, my experience didnāt live up to the expectations.
When I arrived, there was no staff available to greet or assist with seating. I asked for a table, but one of the employees ignored me completely. I then walked over to the cashier, where after a short wait, someone finally pointed me to an empty table.
I ordered a tikka sandwich and a soft drink from one of the waitstaff. After waiting for about 30 minutes with no sign of my food, I asked the same server about my order. She told me to wait another 10 minutes, only to later admit she had forgotten to place the order in the first place. I had to wait even longer for the food to be prepared.
The food itself was okayānot exceptional, but acceptable. However, the service was extremely disappointing. I also tried the shisha, but once again, it was impossible to get any assistance. Even ringing the bell didnāt bring anyone over.
Overall, I expected much better based on the reviews. Unfortunately, poor service overshadowed the...
