The Ship Bukit Bintang — Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur

I've been coming to this family restaurant for over 30 years. I started coming here when my dad brought me as a child, and now, even with kids of my own, I still bring them here. The reason I kept coming back all these years is the old familiar taste. However, today marks the first time I'll leave a negative review for a restaurant I've been loyal to for over three decades.

For my first dinner in 2024, I decided to revisit this place with my wife and child. We were a party of three – a couple and a child. Since my wife was running late from work, I and the kid arrived first and ordered two drinks. After waiting for 20 minutes, my wife joined, and we ordered a main course, soup, and a New Year's set menu. Given our appetites, the kids' meal wasn't appealing, and the adult portions were too large for my child. So, we ordered two adult main courses share with my child.

Our dining experience took about an hour. After finishing our meal, I ordered ice cream for dessert. As my child was savoring the remaining half of the dessert, a male waiter, who had dressed a shirt and glasses, came over with the bill unexpectedly. Both my wife and I were taken aback, but I paid after glancing at the bill and prices. During the payment, I asked the waiter why he brought the bill so soon, especially since my wife's set menu included dessert still haven't present yet. To my surprise, he offered no apology, just a casual "Oh" hand me the receipt and walked away. The dessert came after that.

Before this waiter came to present the bill, he had been sitting diagonally across from me, participating in a New Year's toast with other customers, holding a glass. He stayed seated until he finished his meal with group of customers. It occurred to me later that he is a staff member when he present with bill. I wondered why an employee would be sitting with customers, drinking, and dining. Could he be the manager? While my dining experience today was mainly about relishing the old flavors, the male waiter's(or manager?) premature presentation of the bill left a very negative impression. It felt as if he was rushing us out, despite the restaurant having more than half of its seats unoccupied. Was I discriminated against, or did we overstay...

Almost three years ago before the pandemic, I was recommended by my KL friend to have dinner in this restaurant. The food was delicious and the staff was friendly at that time. I told my friend that I must come to visit again when I come to KL next time.

But for this time, we were so disappointed and would not visit this restaurant again. As the staff (one Chinese aunty) was very rude to talk with us. The food was also very normal, not as good as before and very expensive. 😑 Spent RM260++ for 5 persons. We went to the restaurant at almost 2pm,there's no other customers inside the restaurant. The staff gave us two menus, one was a normal menu, another one was a lunch set menu. My friend wanted to order the lunch set but the staff said very rudely : "The lunch set menu cannot be ordered, no more." We felt like it's okay, BUT why did you still give us the lunch set menu even though the lunch set was already finished ??? Then we ordered food with the staff one by one and talked with her very slowly because she wanted to write down what we wanted to eat. And one of my friends suddenly changed his mind and asked the staff to revise the paper. The staff was impatient and said "Wait! Very messy, I will write it again! Don't change again " We were like "???".

Conclusion : No worthy, change...

Oh wow. I had high expectations with this restaurant but it just disappoints in the most painful way. First, let's talk about the bun. It's hard and there's nothing special with it. I mean, they could serve homemade bun or garlic sticks but this bun, wow. Next the broccoli. Come on. At least put some effort in cutting the stems!! Jeez. Loook at those broccoli branches. The taste is definitely bland as it's just blanched or boiled. I don't know, i can cook this at home and serve it for rm12. Then the Russian chicken. The gravy is just so pathetic. I was happy before i came here, now I'm just sad. The gravy is just some tasteless white sauce mixed with frozen vegetables and sad pieces of yellow capsicum. Ahahahahha this whole course was a complete joke for a place this fancy. Such little effort in making the dinner. The chicken is just normal grilled chicken. Not a hint of vodka as the menu describes. Look at the side dish, pieces of unwanted fries and a whole tomato all for rm28. Ehehhehehe. Good god. For a place this fancy, it doesn't deserve to be treated this way. Not with the...
