Half the fun is in locating this place. Armed with reliable tips on where to start, we ventured into Petaling Street one rainy evening. Locating the right building was our first challenge and we accomplished that fairly quickly (thanks to Instagram). Next, we found the infamous pink door. With mounting excitement, we ventured into the red hued interior. It was cool and dim - the only light came from the red lamps along the wall. There were 2 staircases. On the right hand side was the straight staircase. On our left hand side, we spied a spiral staircase at the end of the crimson hallway. Again, our source proved to be trustworthy. We were told to take the spiral staircase and go up two levels. Lo behold, once we have cleared the landing, we found ourselves right in front of the Attic Bar. I privately told myself that making guests climb down a spiral staircase after they have had a few cocktails is just a lawsuit waiting to happen. Anyway, we were just excited to have found the place and thirsty enough to start drinking. I have not come across many bars in KL serving tuak and was pleasantly surprised to see that they do. I immediately started with that. The cocktails were delicious. Alas, my phone ran out of juice after taking some more pictures of the interior etc. We had more drinks after that and even ordered dinner. I had the roast chicken and it was cooked to perfection. The meat was juicy and the skin was just crispy enough. I told myself I will have to make a return trip to try other items on their cocktail and food menu. Another point worth mentioning is that they serve wine from their own vineyard in Italy. The grapes are grown organically (stress grown) and is supposed to taste much better. Another reason to return as soon...
Read moreSo, you're new in this part of Chinatown, which frankly is at the back end of this bustling sub-district. If you want to find this place, let your friendly neighborhood Chinaman help you find your way!
Make your way to the front door of the Travel Hub, it will be an non-descript door leading to a flight of stairs. Press the bell to let the reception unlock the magna lock and head up. At the top of the stairs, you'll be greeted with the sight of the lobby area of the hostel. don;t worry, right place. There is a door immediately to your right, push it and step in.
You find yourself in a corridor. Wanna have some fun? Take the spiral stairs on your left and head all the way to the top! At the landing, you'll find the entrance to the bar and step inside. Congratulations, you've made it to one of Kuala Lumpur's best hidden gems (but maybe not for long).
The drinks here are good, they have an in-house sommelier for wine and they serve good food! I will need to explore their menu a bit more in the weeks to come. I rate this place 4 out of 5, it takes quite a bit of determination to get here compared to all the other...
Read moreA small but amazing bar hidden in plain sight in Chinatown. 2-3 minutes walking distance from pasar seni station. Follow the Google maps directions and you'll be fine
However, once you reach the designated building, you'll have to ring the bell in order to be let inside the building and climb up three floors using the spiral staircase inside a hostel to reach the place.
The bar itself is of medium size and maybe can host up to 30-40 inside and maybe another 15 outside on the terrace.
Decors inside are nice and unique. You can also sit outside with a view of Merdeka 118. There's happy hour from 5 PM to 7.30 PM. The drinks are unique and something that you find in a regular bar. We ordered YuZu Cha and Burung Hutan.
YuZu Cha is made of Orange, Lime extract with Chamomile tea, Gin and few other stuff and is a bit sour but refreshing. While Burung Hutan is made with Gin, Passion Fruit, pineapple, Rhubarb Appertivo which is sweet and refreshing too.
Had also a shot of Tuak (Sarawakiam Liquer) which was sweet and gives you this nice aftertaste and is a must try. Will definitely return for more when we don't have...
