Looking at all the dishes on the food counter my eyes immediately set on tuna fish (ikan tongkol) bathed in pool of chili sambal or gravy. In any faintess level this warung (eatery) could be incorporated itself with Kelantan or Terengganu (east coast) style of cooking, in my guess. I glance through barracks of dishes I spotted nasi dagang, to be specific it's white nasi dagang and laksam; flat wheat noodle eats with coconut milk gravy, thicken with fish meat, gave me the idea that the warung serves Terengganu-influenced dishes, to be more specific. Naturally, I would go for nasi lemak ikan tongkol-signature condiment that go way back since begining of time in Terengganu, specially in Kuala Terengganu. Those reside or raised in Kuala Terengganu would familiar with nasi lemak Sunik, Kak Dah CD (Sidi), or Kak Dah Sunik, these are the gold standard of Kuala Terengganu's nasi lemak ikan. Thick-dark-red-paste-like gravy come from chili paste (cili boh), onion paste, sweeten with palm sugar (nisan), achieved by long hours of low heat simmer. Overwhelmed with these expectations unfortunately for me, this far from true to my liking. Here, the sambal too spicy for me, no sweetness and there's a sour taste to the sambal, a common thing happen if the slow simmer process is done not long enough. In Kuala Terengganu people often associate this as "rasa cili boh tak cukup masak". I have no idea if they use paste or dried chili as people outside Terengganu would normally use. Laksam according to my partner, is okay and the portion matched its price. The service was pleasant, fast, helpful. The warung has relaxing, very clean and good vibes to it. It was early in the morning, parking was easy, roadside but narrow street, could be harder to get if crowded. Personally, all I can say for the nasi lemak ikan was not my cup of tea. Maybe I used to Kuala Terengganu's standard where I spent most of my childhood and don't give me wrong, I still would recommend it to those who continuously in search for authentic Terengganu cuisine in Klang Valley, go on give a try. After all, it's a matter of preference. Oh! I only noticed the "Meh Singgoh Boh!" sign on the way out, so... Not...
Read moreWe came here again for brunch, and it was still an excellent experience. I finally had the chance to try the Nasi Kerabu Kambing Bakar, and it was simply exquisite!! Najwa requested for Nasi Kerabu Ayam Goreng, and that didnt disappoint her either.
My wife on the other hand decided to try the Laksa, but it turned out to be a major disappointment to her, and she didnt even finish her meal. Luckily, Najwa had ordered some keropok lekor and some colek, ie the deep fried seafood combo, and these dishes had managed to pacify my wife...
We actually came here twice in two days!!
Last friday we came here for breakfast, and didnt get to stay for very long as we had a meeting at 9:30 am. Hence, my wife and I only ordered Toast with Telur Goyang and teh tarik, as it would be faster. Daniel still had the time to enjoy his orders of Deep Fried Prawns and Calamaris,...and also a plate of Nasi Kerabu!!
Somehow, my wife and Daniel like the foods here very much, and they insisted on coming here again on saturday night, for dinner. This time, Najwa was eager to join us, despite the heavy downpour, which caught us by surprise!
Lucky for us, the crowd was not so big, perhaps due to the heavy rain. This had helped us to get our food much faster. My wife requested for the Prawn Curry Mee, while Najwa only had the Nasi Lemak that was served in the small packet. Daniel still ordered a bigger portion of the Deep Fried Prawns and Calamaris, supposedly to share with Najwa, but he also had another plate of Nasi Lemak with Lamb Chop!!
I dont normally take a heavy meal for dinner, but somehow I couldnt resist the Sup Kambing, (Mutton Soup) which was served with bihun. The hot serving of Mutton Soup really kept me warm, as the weather was getting quite chilly, due to the rain. And, it turned out to be so deliciously tasty as well...
Now, we have more options for foods from the Kampung...
Read moreA very nice new makan place in Kampung Bharu, where Juara Tomyam used to be. Minimally-decored in predominantly bright & white scheme, which gave a very chill, relaxing vibe.
Menu was quite extensive, but do be aware that certain offerings are only available at certain times.
I'm a sucker for mee bandung, so when i saw it on the menu, it was an auto-go-to for me, & i definitely wasn't disappointed! Was watching the chef preparing it; he definitely was detailed & looked very passionate & involved in the whole process.
Prices are very reasonable, perhaps even on the low-side.
Service was great & everyone was...
