Yen at W Hotel Kuala Lumpur offers a refined take on all-you-can-eat dim sum, serving freshly made, high-quality dishes in an elegant setting. The menu features a limited but reasonably adequate selection of steamed, fried, and baked dim sum, with highlights like plump har gow, flavorful siu mai, and delicious chee cheong fun. We all loved the crispy cod fillet with cheese, stir fried radish cake, and steamed milk pudding.
Service staff were all busy at all times, but once they attend to you, you have their full attention. Portions are satisfying, and you do need to specify the number of pieces for each item you’re ordering.
Yen is a great spot for a leisurely, upscale dim sum feast. Perfect for those who want variety without compromising on taste and freshness.
There are two seatings for lunch: 11am-1230pm and 1-2:30pm. My family and I went for the second lunch seating. What we didn’t realise was the last call time of 2pm, which left us disappointed as we could not order the desserts we wanted at 2:15pm. However, upon chatting with one of the staff and sharing this to him, he instantly offered to bring out the desserts to us although it was already past 2:30pm. For this I’d give the service staff 5 stars for turning the situation around - and this would not be my last visit. Thank you for the experience!
I do have one piece of feedback though - please do make a point to inform guests about the last call time, in person, instead of informing via WhatsApp during the period of dining. Reason being the message may not be read in time, which was the case in...
Read moreWith an extremely high expectations on Yen's dim sums, we felt they are just ok, not much to shout out in taste or quality except the high price! The lo ma gai is pretty plain, and siw mai is just ok, that's mainly because of halal ingredients such as chicken and prawn only in it instead of traditional non halal Chinese versions containing juicy minced pork. At least the chicken feet is so good! I wish I had it more if my stomach capacity allowed. Also yam cakes is pretty good! We both enjoyed crystal prawn dumplings a lot. My husband loves the white turnip cakes while I enjoyed some cooked dishes like bittergourd and mapo tofu. The steamed dim sum items aren't many, so we got to try some fried one, found out the fried prawn filling stuffed tofu skin is exceptionally tasty, we had it ordered a few more times. The desserts I like most is egg tarts and Chinese style lotus paste filled crepe. But sadly the red beans soup is way too watery so it would ve been better if they has added more red beans in it. Again, i would say the dimsum here are quite the same in quality that's sold in locally available neighborhood dim sum restaurants. Nothing much to differ from our usual dim sum items we pay for around rm 6 for one basket. So considered its rm 138, the verdict is that its not worth it giving another chance for us money splash, but once is just ok. One good thing to us was we still enjoyed the stunning of kl tower as a bonus, at least for my little son who took only s few bites and got...
Read moreHosted a fine dining event last month on behalf of an international gastronomy society. We brought in 49 guests with promises of great food and service. It was totally disappointing, The management team cares least about hosting the dinner unlike other establishments where we have hosted and the owners go at great length to showcase their best talent, service and food quality. Only on the day of the event we were informed that the Chef will be busy with a 190 pax wedding dinner and wont be able to be present. Althu they tried to assure that the Chef wl pop into the kitchen to make sure the cuisines are well prepared , al of us thought otherwise. the noodles were bland, the mains were salty, and everything you can imagine wl go wrong when the “boss” is not there. Guests who have been there before looked forward to a great experience but were the first to show displeasure and disappointment. We were left with their junior crew who at least did their best to manage. The bar ran out of prosecco and was not attended to for some time. The bartender admitted it was his first dat at work.
From the beginning, the restaurant was high handed in their dealings, giving us the feeling “there are other more important guests to serve”.
Although we expected the restaurant to be busy on Saturday night, we were their only guests besides two couples who stayed less than an hour.
Will not...
