Man Yi Restaurant 满溢私房菜 — Restaurant in Malacca

What a delightful find during my last trip to Melaka! The restaurant is small and seats only 6-7 tables, has a limited menu and booking and ordering of food are done via WhatsApp.

The most popular dish has to be the pepper curry fish head which came with a mountain of fuchuk, perfect to soak up the delicious and mild curry sauce. The pork knuckle was crispy on the outside and tender inside. Came with a nice tangy sauce that helped to cut down the fattiness of the pork. The tofu with pumpkin was excellent. As was the wine chicken which came with pieces of tender chicken and an intoxicating red wine sauce. Fried vegetables with lotus were crunchy. The pork ribs, while tasty, could be more tender and meatier. The otak otak was a bit of a disaster. It was supposed to come steamed in a coconut. Instead, it was steamed on a plate. As a result, it turned into an omelette that was neither here nor there in texture.

Do note this is a small restaurant: book ahead and don't expect perfect service as only one waitress worked in the dining area. She was very efficient though. However, this is part of the charm of Man Yi - which retains a homey feel and is a family run business.

Visited for this time with Hakka fried pork- 5/5, my parents also like it very much. Pumpkin golden fried tofu-4/5, skin a bit hard nbut overall good Mixed vege- 5/5 All vege is crunchy and taste good, if there are elderly can try to order others type of vege Fried egg with minced meat - 5/5, like it very much, not too dried and taste good

Service- Good and talkative 😁

Environment- Ambience and clean. Whole room is cool enough. Even toilet also quite clean.

Booking wise 💟if you want to book for bigger group like 6-10person for weekend, better book it one day or two day earlier to reserve the place . All food to book as early as possible. 💟if you only want to go on same day, better drop a call to ask before you reach there as usually fully booked unless u are lucky to get a place

We were there to celebrate my mom’s 85th birthday. Actually when I called on Thurs I was told Saturday is already fully booked for private lunch & dinner but Ms Nancy was kind to accommodate us for early dinner 5.30 to 7pm upon hearing it is mom’s birthday🙏🏻🙏🏻. The food was so so good and busy enjoying them that we had forgotten to take photo of the food.

I wanted to try as many of their signature dishes as possible so ended up over ordered however nothing goes to waste as I brought my own containers to ‘tarpau’ including the pork knuckle bone which made extra yummy porridge for my parents the following day😋😋. My advise is to listen to Nancy’s recommendation including the number of dishes 🤣🤣 as she kept telling me is too many dishes but greedy me🤭. All my siblings, nieces & nephews including my parents enjoyed the dinner very very much. Highly recommended, everything is yummy including their dessert - Chinese pancake. My only advise is Don’t try to be greedy like me ordering too many at one go, just come back again & again to try out other dishes😬😬 but I’m sure all will be good. Looking forward our next...
