Kong Heng, Ipoh Situated in the heart of Ipoh Old Town, this Kopitiam is a storied establishment with a history that traces back to the heights of Perak’s tin mining boom in the late nineteenth century. Renowned for its unique satay that includes internal organs and the beloved Ipoh Hor Fun, the kopitiam has long been a culinary landmark. Its dishes evoke the nostalgic taste of old Ipoh, though some locals from Ipoh consider it overrated. As someone not originally from Ipoh, my perspective is coloured by a sense of nostalgia. Right next to the Kopitiam is Thien Chun, a restaurant rumoured to be under the same ownership. Adding to the charm of the location is Concubine Lane, a well-known historical site, situated directly in front of the shop. Visitors should note that this area is often bustling, and parking can be a challenge. Reflecting on the culinary offerings here, I must admit that they do not quite match the rich flavours I recall from years ago. There are other spots in Ipoh where the food might meet or even surpass the standards of what I ‘ve tasted here. The Sotong KangKong was nice with quite generous amount of sotong (which was hidden/covered by the peanut gravy/source) and the veg, KangKong were very fresh...
The bread was very crispy... although the layer of kaya spread within was not very thick, the butter was enough to balance it...
Ordered the "teh bing" "冰奶茶", ice milk tea and requested not to add sugar... surprisingly, it came as a "teh tarik" from a chinese coffee/tea/drink stall/restoran/kopitiam, which is my favourite... (generally, "teh tarik" can only get from Indian or Malay coffee/tea/drink stalls/kopitiams, to produce the many small bubbles from the "pulled tea"... 👍)
The Rojak was good... the prawn crackers and peanuts were still crispy and crunchy although mixed with the savoury gravy... the cut/sliced umbra fruit, " ba long long"(in Hokkien language/terms) was good...

Chicken and char Siew rice , fried mee and rice , Popiah , prawn mee and pork noodles , rojak , sotong kangkung . You can also order food from the next door restaurant which name is Thien Chun .
