The issue I have with hostels as this so called heritage charm is on the refurbishment and maintenance. They need to know the different between allowing a falling apart wall to remain and refurbishing it to a solid heritage interior. Cracked wall paint should be repainted and not left it to keep falling off in pieces. Old steel gates should be repainted and not to feel grimy or gritty to the touch. Plants need to be watered to keep them healthy looking and not dry and dying.
Luckily the cubicles the room are done with new planks and tiles. Cleanliness is acceptable and what I do like is the size of the cubicles spacious enough without feeling claustrophobic. The black out curtain provide the adequate privacy although they have separate Male and female rooms. The toilet is too small and though they are clean enough but I do think they could do better.
There is no social area since they don’t serve breakfast there is no pantry as well. The cafe is a biz entity so it has open and close hours. So for those used to make drinks and etc 24hrs in hostels this is not the one for you. They only leave Bottles of refilled filtered water overnight on the counter for guests.
1 didn’t find the staff friendly enough unfortunately. There is a different between polite friendliness and sincere friendliness. The staff here from my personal experience are more towards being polite. It could be better if they show more sincere and genuine welcome instead of forced smile or polite decline etc.
Will I come back again? Yes and that’s why I highlighted the above for the hostel improvement and hopefully when I do come back they have the biz sense to update their...
Read moreSprawling over 3 stories, this lovely, quaint cafe retains the rustic decor of the blemished, deteriorated walls of the former warehouse while the upper 2 floors have been fully renovated into a comfy guesthouse for travellers to reside.
The nonchalant, relaxing aura of the rest-house upstairs seems to have pervaded the cafe as well as I could have easily spent my entire Saturday afternoon here.
Craving for a classic Western brekkie? Munch on their huge, aromatic, buttery croissant filled with ham, tomato, lettuce and cheese that comes with some moist and fluffy scrambled eggs.
There’s also quite a handful of vegetarian options available including this interesting “Fuyu” Spaghetti featuring fermented beancurd and mushrooms that elicits a pleasant salty, umami flavour.
For desserts, head to the back of the cafe and you’ll find a cake cabinet of their daily specials but their signature, individual-sized Ondeh-Ondeh cake is here to stay. An adaptation of the Malay Ondeh-Ondeh kuih, this pandan chiffon cake coated with pandan meringue is a light dessert. Surrounding the brown flakes of grated “Gula Melaka” (palm sugar) at the core is some soft, coconut cream sandwiched between the green pandan sponge layers.
Their pretty large lemon tart with an almond pastry crust had a refreshing, zesty flavour and a...
Read moreWe were actually planning to go to another eatery nearby. However we failed to check if they were open and ended up here. I have to say that this place is really very very cosy. I like the atmosphere here. The music is just great too. That's to my liking. If you want to do have some personal time here that's just great. I came with my wife and 2 kids. A treat from my wife. The ordering is using querty code. But be advised not to scan the code first before your have gone through the menu provided. You will only have 15 to complete your order once scanned. I did ask the owner and it's actually to encourage the customers to get used to such ordering method. By the way they are able to serve you to if needed. We ordered some sandwiches, spaghetti, chicken popcorn, courissant with ice cream, chocolate drink and lemon drink. I would say the food is nice and savory. We enjoyed it very much. My kids were ecstatic especially my 6 year old boy. I think he enjoyed the most here. Price wise I will say it's on average. Some expensive items and some cheaper items. But it's not your corner mamak stall pricing most definitely. Well that's what your are paying for....including the environment and setup. Have a treat for yourself here. I encourage it. Will most...
