My wife and I had the opportunity today (Wednesday 8th October 2025) to try out a sample of Rich Kopitiam's new recipe for its Cendol. Targeted to be launched this 16th October 2025, the immediate and outstanding feature of this re-vamped Cendol dessert is the cendol jelly. Unlike the usual thin version, Rich Kopitiam's new version of the cendol jelly is fat (bulbous) yet soft, juicy and tender with a distinct but not over-powering natural pandan flavour. The cendol jelly is not clumped together, rather they are individual pieces. Before stirring all the condiments together, we carefully dug past the cendol jelly down to almost the bottom of the serving dish to determine the quality, quantity and taste of the santan (coconut milk) used in this dessert. We were very pleased that it was pure fresh quality santan all the way down with little dilution from the shaved ice. The gula melaka used was very flavoursome. The texture of the red beans was just right for us. We next stirred all the condiments together. The taste of Rich Kopitiam's new Cendol version is a very well balanced blend of the four main ingredients; the cendol jelly, santan, gula melaka and red beans with not too much shaved ice that would have diluted the taste of the santan and gula melaka.
This new version of Rich Kopitiam's cendol is a testament to the Management's strong emphasis on continuous quality research and development into almost all the items on its menu. Even when a dish is already good, the Management's philosophy is that it can still be better.
Datuk Rich, the founder and driver behind Rich Kopitiam (RK), is very passionate about the business. He's at the restaurant daily and is deeply involved in RK's R&D from the ingredients used in the dishes down to the crockery on which the dishes are served as well as in photo shoots for RK's menu. All the dishes are served on heavy, sturdy stone ware. Even the spoon for the cendol dish is a specially ordered metal spoon that has a good weighty feel. The restaurant is very brightly lit, but not harsh. We have found RK's service to be above its peers. Prices are reasonable given its location in one of the Klang Valley's premier shopping malls. The quantity and quality of the food served is good for the price charged. The depth of the menu is sufficient to satisfy the taste of a wide spectrum of diners as well as avoid boredom for the restaurant's regular diners. The background music is soft and soothing. Overall, Datuk Rich's philosophy is that it takes many factors to come together to make a restaurant successful. One that will have a sizable and loyal repeat customer base. Its not just the food.
My family's and our friends' favouritte dishes are the Rich Signature Nasi Lemak with Ayam Berempah (item 101), Chicken Chop with Black Pepper Sauce (106), Curry Mee (201), Char Kway Teow (205), Dry Wantan Mee with Curry Chicken (208), Butter and Kaya Toast (302) and Chicken Satay (309). There's a wide variety of drinks to choose from. My wife enjoys the 'Cham' Kopi while I like the White Coffee (hot, item 708B).
The restaurant is always busy with long queues from 12pm to 2pm on weekdays. Busy times are also on weekends and public holidays. Good times to visit are between these busy periods. There's indoor air-conditioned seating or shaded outdoors with good cooling provided by ceiling fans. It's a popular family restaurant.
Tasty food served at reasonable prices with prompt and attentive service and good ambience. It's no wonder that this kopitiam has registered strong growth in the number of outlets in just over one and a half years. Rich Kopitiam is no...
Read morePlace is unfortunately over-rated. Food wise is just ok. Nothing really stands out and just like PapaRich. Due to the crowd, it is always difficult to get a place. During one of our visit, the experience is really bad. Waited for the laksa for about 45min and asked the supervisor in charge (wearing different uniform) several times about the status but kept saying it is coming. Then after 1 hour the supervisor told us that the laksa is sold out as they are out of ingredient. So fine, we are forced to starve for an hour and change food. 5 min after that we saw their staff took out 2 bowls of laksa to another table that came much later after us. We enquire again but the supervisor was missing so had to ask another supervisor - he told us maybe miscommunication. And says he will ask the kitchen to give priority. You will think the food will come out soon? Nope. 15min gone. My patience long gone. I go to counter and ask for my receipt and tell them to remove the laksa as it never came. The counter insist that the food is being made and they cannot cancel. At that moment none of the 2 supervisors in charge is there. Perhaps gone for a break somewhere. I had given up on waiting and do not want to burst out. so just insisted that i have waited almost 2 hours for their precious laksa and i will just pay for my meal that i ate. I hope someone from Rich Kopitiam management is reading this post and taking my comment here seriously. I totally understand running a F&B business is not easy and when there is a huge crowd it is even harder. However, you need returning customer. It takes a long time to build the business but just overnight for it to crumble down.

Read moreI recently had the opportunity to visit the newly opened kopitiam under the renowned Papa Rich brand, and I must say, it was quite the experience. The restaurant boasts a modern and open atmosphere that sets it apart from traditional kopitiams. However, be prepared for a bit of a wait as the word seems to have spread quickly, resulting in a rather lengthy queue.
The menu primarily showcases a delightful array of local dishes and beverages that are sure to tantalize your taste buds. What caught my attention was the generous portion sizes - they definitely don't skimp on serving sizes here. It's a place where you're guaranteed to leave with a satisfied belly.
For those who enjoy a fiery kick, the sambal here is not for the faint of heart. Its intense spiciness adds a bold flavor to your dishes, but do be cautious if you're sensitive to heat!
One aspect that left me a bit divided was the attentive staff constantly coming over to clean tables. While it's a positive indicator of their commitment to maintaining a clean environment, it might not be the ideal setting for deep discussions or gatherings. The frequent interruptions could potentially disrupt the flow of conversation.
In conclusion, the new kopitiam by Papa Rich is a refreshing take on traditional local cuisine, offering a modern ambiance and generous servings. If you're in the mood for authentic flavors with a contemporary twist, this spot is worth a visit. Just keep in mind that the lively atmosphere and diligent staff might not make it the best place for prolonged conversations...
