Warakuya is affordable dining... pushing above its weight but just below a fine dining experience!
We have been following and patronising this restaurant ever since it opened a few years back. Currently, they have no direct competitors in the Dataran Sunway locale, and they have certainly made it difficult for new entrants into the area for 3 reasons. Maintaining their standards- you just know they will serve you a meal which was as good as the last visit. Constant improvements in their customer service - they even offer complimentary hair bands for long-haired ladies who dont want to soak their hair in Ramen soup! Prices have gone up marginally, but their quality is still maintained ... except for wasabi (personal observation here. I feel the wasabi just lost some oomph, though i just can't put my finger on it)
The sushi and sashimi are a must to order. But this visit, we were pleasantly surprised by how good their 'Special Ramen' tasted ...especially the broth. It's just gorgeous and well done. 👏 👏
A big mention to their serving staff for a valiant effort to emulate the service of a restaurant in Japan. Attentive and well mannered. Kudos to the management and owners for finding such quality staff and training them. No easy feat in the current environment of difficulty in getting good front of restaurant staff.
Do try them out, and once you have been, we are quite sure you will want to go again like us. There are so many interesting and good-looking dishes you can try out. It's worth an evening out for dinner.
I scored Warakuya 4 stars across the board as they have really pushed the higher limit of quality affordable dining. #########################☆☆☆☆ Please do give my review a like👍 if you enjoy reading my way of reviewing food and restaurants. I just dont like the dry and single tracked way most reviewers do theirs. Good means good .....no ifs no buts and no sugar coating or plasticky insta pictures only! Read moreLocated at the corner lot, across from Maybank, Giza Mall, the restaurant frontage is simple. There are seats outside in case there is a queue, but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of customers at the time I was dining.
The tables are comfortably spaced. The decor simple. Order by calling for the wait staff. Note: The wait staff doesn’t seem local, so their speech, either English or Chinese, can take a bit of flexibility, or mental gymnastics, to understand.
Ishiyaki Champon Ramen is great. It is cooked and brought out in a stone bowl (ishiyaki) and boiling hot. Two bowls are provided with the dish. The ramen (noodles) are springy and nicely cooked. The broth is thick and flavourful.
The Tempura Cha Zaru Soba is cold soba and with accompanying tempura, chawan mushi, salad and dipping soup. The soba is springy and placed on top of a lot of ice. The chawan mushi has two prawns in it. The tempura has the standard tempura prawn, tempura enoki mushroom, tempura radish, etc. Portions are good.
The Surumi Ika Set is a set with surumi (crab sticks), and ika (squid), with rice and miso soup, and salad. The ika tastes great. Strong flavour and a grilled taste.
The katsu curry, is Japanese curry dish with rice. The curry is good and decent.
The chicken don, is well chicken. With rice and miso soup.
Since it was the birthday of one of us, they gave free ice cream and two red-dyed eggs. It came in an elaborate presentation and they can sing for you as well.
Oh yeah, at the end they gave free melon flavoured pudding for each diner.
Nice place, and...
Read moreBeen eating in Warakuya KD branch for few times and it is good but this time i feel disappointed with the services provided. There are 6 pax of us but upon arrival, there are 5 and was given only 2 menus. When all of us know what to order, i press the bell. But we can't remember the food name or number, so i asked the skinny guy waiter to give us another 2 menus and he show me the dissatisfaction face with the disgusting mouth sign. When i want to make payment, the skinny guy waiter as well as the cashier on duty asked me whether i have any member? And i said don't have. He don't even promotion or guide me how to become their member. There are still one more easier, wearing spect, a bit fat but not too fat, he is quite friendly & happy to see his face.
Anyway the food in Warakuya Cheras taste better than this KD branch.
Btw, thanks for their kitchen staff decorate the birthday cake nicely in the wonderful...
