UPDATE: October 2024: We happened to come to Maria's for the first time for lunch - and was happy to find that there is an amazing Lunch Menu.
Great sets and value. We had the spaghetti bolognaise with a whole chicken chop and a black pepper chicken chop - both were excellent. Each main came with a choice of soup, soft drink or coffee. We chose soup and was served piping hot bowls of smooth tomato soup that tasted fresh and house-made. We added some more pictures to this review.
Honestly, Maria's just keeps hitting the ball out of the park for us. The staff are first class, too. Very attentive, very mindful and very demure. 5 Star service every time.
Thank you for being our default western food restaurant. We tell everyone we love it here.
I kid you not, Maria's must be one of the most underrated restaurants in Malaysia. We are regulars - at both Maria's in Bangsar as well as this one in Sunway. The food has always been top-notch and extremely affordable, so I'm surprised that it's not as busy as it deserves to be. Every meal we've had here has been so satisfying and so fairly priced that we can't even believe our luck!
Mains start at rm22, soups are around rm12, salads average at rm15. You can't find better pricing for this quality anywhere else in the Valley. This is the place for wholesome chicken chops, a classic burger, salads, soup, and they have a full menu of steaks, with even aged wagyu. There isn't anything very trendy on the menu, but we just love their classic western dishes that will never go out of fashion.
Each of the restaurants in the chain has a slightly lavish early - 90s (?) decor that makes Maria's look more expensive (but a bit dated) than it actually is. The choice of music is also circa 80s/ 90s and it does give a mum-and-dad / Boomer vibe. This is probably why not too many people under 30 come here. And it's a shame because too many young people are missing out on some really good cooking. You guys need to give Maria's a chance - it's really better than 99% of the new cafes around.
Anyway, as everyone else swarms the next mid but viral cafe, we will happily enjoy our quiet corner at this hidden gem.
P.S. We did not do this review in return for anything. Who has time to write such a long review when at the restaurant? Opinions are entirely our own based on all of our self-paid dining...
Read more23/august update : My friend and I revisit Maria Cafe today for second chance , and this time, the M9 Wagyu steak they served was not only delicious but also absolutely correct! The flavor was exquisite, and the steak itself was incredibly juicy. Our dinner experience was not just satisfactory; it was delightful.
What made this visit even more remarkable was that Maria Cafe had taken note of previous mistakes and made the necessary corrections. It's evident that they're dedicated to improving their service and ensuring a memorable dining experience for their customers. I will come back again . I hope they can consistently maintain this level of good quality.
23th/July Update: Maria Cafe has apologized to me and provided a satisfying resolution. They assured me that they have investigated the problem and rectified it to prevent the mistake from happening again. Therefore, I have decided to give them a second chance due to their good customer service. I will visit the cafe again to see if there is any improvement, and I will update my review accordingly.
Past review :
I have been a fan of Maria's Cafe and have enjoyed their satisfying steak multiple times. However, today I ordered the M9 Wagyu steak with my friend, but we received a lower grade steak instead. The steak was very chewy, and I am certain it was not M9 Wagyu because I had ordered it last Sunday, and the meat was perfect.
I brought my friend here today with high expectations of experiencing the amazing M9 Wagyu again, but the result was disappointing, and it made me lose face. I am extremely disappointed with the experience, and I have decided that I won't be visiting Maria's Cafe again. I feel that they might have given me a lower grade meat intentionally due to the promotion they are running right now.
The inconsistency and dishonesty have disappointed me greatly. As a loyal customer, I had high expectations for the M9 Wagyu steak, but today's lower grade and chewy meat has made me lose faith in Maria's Cafe. I won't...
Read moreI was doing some research online not too long ago to choose a place to settle to to celebrate my 2nd anniversary with my girlfriend, and I came across this place. At first I was unsure if I wanted to choose this place as an option to dine in and celebrate due to certain unfavorable and critical reviews regarding the restaurant's performance in terms of the quality of the food, specifically the Wagyu.
However, I decided to give it a shot anyway and ordered 2 Wagyu Ribeyes (MB7), 1 medium-rare and 1 medium. As the food arrived, I decided to take a small bite out of everything to evaluate the taste, overall I'd say the Steak was cooked to perfection and it has met my expectations and I'm glad that it this. However, the onions were kinda soft and chewy which was a slight turn-off as that was the first thing I tasted and it was slightly oily as quoted by my girlfriend, but overall the steak was satisfactory.
In essence, I'd return here to try out the other dishes that they serve to see if it's up to standard and make further evaluations.
Side note: Majority of the staff was friendly and provided great hospitality; however, one of the staff that served me was a little blur, but it's alright as another server stepped in to...
