I recently visited the newly opened Scala and tried some amazing dishes that I just have to leave a review ! First off, the snacks were so good. The BBQ octopus was cooked to perfection and had a really nice balance of sweet and savory flavors with the soy and yuzu. The pickled red cabbage added a nice crunch and acidity to the dish. And don't even get me started on the Gougere and beef cheeks - both were just so delicious and flavorful.
Moving on to the starters, I was blown away by the ravioli with local prawns. The ravioli was stuffed with plump, juicy prawns and the shellfish veloute was creamy and delicious. The stracciatella cheese added a nice creaminess to the dish while the chorizo added a slight smokiness. The aged Acquerello risotto was also really good, with the heirloom tomatoes adding a nice freshness and the Gruyère cheese and lardo di Colonnata adding some extra depth and richness.
For the main, I went with the fillet of beef and it did not disappoint. It was cooked perfectly, juicy and tender with a nice char on the outside. The Chevre cheese added a nice tanginess to the dish. But I have to say, the Sauce Bordelaise stole the show it was so rich and flavorful.
The desserts were equally impressive, and I couldn't resist trying the chocolate fondant, which was decadent and rich. The dessert was served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, which perfectly complemented the warm, gooey chocolate center.
Overall, I would highly recommend Scala Mdina to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in Malta. The food was exceptional, and the service was attentive and friendly. The restaurant's location in the outskirts of Mdina also added to the overall experience, making it a truly...
Read moreWe’ve been visiting SCALA since its opening, both with smaller and larger groups, and it has never let us down. The food is consistently outstanding, showcasing the skill and passion of not only Sheldon, the owner and head chef, but also the entire kitchen team. Each dish reflects their attention to detail, with flavors that are always perfectly balanced.
The staff at SCALA are attentive, friendly, and go above and beyond to ensure that every dining experience is exceptional. Their attention to detail is remarkable, making each visit feel special, whether it's remembering a personal preference or the thoughtful presentation of every dish.
The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable the moment you step in. The wine selection and cocktails are top-notch, always adding an extra touch to the meal.
We believe SCALA is the only restaurant in Malta with a 5.0 Google rating, and it's a distinction that’s truly well deserved. Having dined at Michelin-starred restaurants across Malta and Europe, we are surprised SCALA hasn’t yet made it onto the Michelin radar. It’s more than worthy of that recognition.
If Michelin recognition is something the chef team is aiming for, in our humble opinion, perhaps refining the presentation and slightly reducing the portion sizes could be small steps toward that.
However, this is a minor point in the grand scheme of what is otherwise a fantastic culinary experience. No negative comments whatsoever, just a beautiful restaurant with incredible food and a team that takes pride in...
Read moreWOW WOW WOW WOW! We were visting nearby and we looked for somewhere for dinner, i found Scala and read the reviews which were amazing and thought lets see if they live up to their reviews. I would of given Scala 10 stars if i could, from the moment we arrived and was met by the owner who gave us a lovely table over looking with the lovely views. I had the Pan Fried Scallops and my wife the Linguine 'Gentile Selection', followed by the Chicken Supreme and Local Fresh fish. All of the dishes tasted fantastic and were presented equally great! Then my favourite the desert, i was recommended the 35% Milk Chocolate and Salted Caramel Pave and my wife had the Praline Choux Bun. The 35% Milk Chocolate and Salted Caramel Pave is the BEST desert i have ever had anywhere in the world, I wish i could of taken some back to the UK. I'm a desert person totally and when i go out to eat, i always look at the desert menu first, see what im going to have and them work my way backwards! The staff were very friendly and the service impeccable, i will definitely be returning to Scala when i travel back to Malta, thank you so much for an...
