STEP 15 — Restaurant in Mdina

We had high hopes for our last meal in Malta after 8 days all over and having wonderful food at the neighboring restaurants of Fork and Cork and Root 81. However, our service was not good here. The waitress had no personality, she didn’t explain any wines (they apparently had no glass list or options for glasses of wine), and we were left with no water left nor wine in our glasses throughout the dinner. When she did give us glasses of wine, she didn’t tell us what they were until actually pouring and bringing them to us, then charged us for a port wine and something unknown at the end… sketchy. The food was pretty good but service lacking. Recommend the other restaurants on the stairs instead.

Update- to the reply by the chef. We like to see what is being poured in our glasses, so that would have solved quite a bit. Also, the waitress said it was Malbec wine, which Niepoort does not manufacture. We know our wine. Also, as I said in my review, the chef (you) were not...

During our recent visit we ordered 3 different starter dishes. The octopus was cooked perfectly and we really enjoyed this dish. The only thing we would change is to put less sauce as the octopus was “swimming” in it and therefore the sauce overpowered the taste of the octopus. The second starter (pasta) was ok. However, the scallops (last starter) were tasteless which was really disappointing. In the beginning we received a complimentary bread basket - the bread was warm and tasty - we really enjoyed dipping it in olive oil. The chef also gave us a small appetiser which was kind. The staff were friendly and polite and explained everything well when asking questions about a specific dish. Overall, the star of our visit were the octopus and the bread basket. A Truly Sensational Meal and Experience! ​From start to finish, dining here was a spectacular experience. The food was absolutely sensational. We started with the salmon and the burrata, both of which were fresh, perfectly prepared, and incredibly delicious, a fantastic start to the meal. For the main course, the mushrooms and gnocchi was a triumph; rich, earthy, and perfectly cooked, easily the best pasta dishes I've had here in Malta. Compliments to the chef!
