During our recent visit to The Harbour Club in Valletta, we were thoroughly impressed by the exceptional service and exquisite cuisine. The staff welcomed us warmly, creating a friendly and inviting atmosphere that enhanced our dining experience.
Opting for the two-course menu, we were particularly delighted with the Grain Fed Beef Fillet, a succulent dish accompanied by Jerusalem artichoke, cheddar royale, beef shin, and jus. This main course, inspired by Mediterranean Street (Triq il-Mediterran), showcased the chef’s skill in harmonizing flavors and textures.
For dessert, we indulged in two outstanding selections. The Chocolate & Tahini dessert featured a rich mousse paired with cocoa chiffon, sesame tuile, banana gel, and banana sorbet, offering a delightful blend of sweet and savory notes. This creation is named after St. John Street (Triq San Ġwann). Equally impressive was the Coffee Flan, accompanied by hazelnut frangipane, Breton wafer, and mascarpone sabayon, providing a creamy and satisfying conclusion to our meal. This dessert draws inspiration from St. Ursula Street (Triq Sant Orsla).
A unique aspect of The Harbour Club’s dining experience is their menu, which draws inspiration from the streets of Valletta. Each dish is associated with a specific street and is accompanied by a printed card detailing the history and significance of that location. This thoughtful touch seamlessly blends culinary artistry with cultural heritage, offering diners an opportunity to explore Valletta’s rich stories, history, and culture through their meal. This innovative approach added depth to our dining experience, making it both educational and enjoyable.
In summary, The Harbour Club offers a harmonious fusion of exceptional service, delectable cuisine, and a unique cultural journey. We highly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience...
Read moreStunning food and ambience, and well worth a visit. Two courses is €55, 3 courses €70, degustation menu €85.
We started with a delicious aperitif from their cocktail menu (~€8-9), a Passion Fruit & Ginger Margarita, and a Bond’s Smokey Secret, with rum, triple sec, lime, Falernum (an alcoholic spiced syrup), and crème de cacao (syrup liqueur), with a torched slice of pineapple. Both cocktails had sharp, perceptible flavours, were well balanced and beautifully presented.
We were both served two Amuse-bouche: a small shot of aerated cold onion creamy soup, and a pecorino cheese tartlet, served alongside a basket of slices focaccia and Maltese breads. All excellent.
Starters were mouth-wateringly delicious - a Lampuki (mahi-mahi) tartare with sliced cucumber ribbons and capers, and a truly divine bowl of pappardelle, organised in rose-shaped parcels, with red mullet and mussels in a butter sauce. Thoroughly delicious and was finished all too soon!
It went superbly with the Maltese Chardonnay I had alongside.
For our main course we shared two dishes as it was too hard to decide on just one - an exquisite veal fillet served with a polenta cake (like a hash brown) and a veal and corn ragout, and the Pork fillet, also very tasty, thinly sliced and served in a nutty jus, with roasted red pepper and red onion. Our meals were accompanied with a bowl of new potatoes with dill and coriander seed and a light creamy dressing.
The Harbour Club benefits from the very peaceful backdrop of the sea overlooking the three cities. Very knowledgable staff who talk you through the menu and individual ingredients, and share little stories on postcards before each course to explain the background of the meal and history of its name (the meals are named after streets...
Read moreWe had dinner here a couple of times. It’s a lovely place featuring an outdoor terrace with a stunning view to the harbour. Beautifully presented fusion food, modern cuisine - a really nice selection of wines, but surprisingly they could also prepare very good classic cocktails, better executed than in many cocktail bars.
The staff is very knlowledgefull, and professional however the service was a little bit slowish.
All the starters we tasted were fabulous. We loved the asian influenced tuna carpaccio, the duck terrine with pistachio - figs, the bucatini with local red prawn - guanciale. All of the above three dishes were wonderfully balanced and delightful to all the senses.
Unfortunately some of the mains were a bit out of balance.
Sadly the daily special Calamari Risotto was bland and very salty. Could not really taste anything else than salt and a bit of cheese. Especially after the perfectly balanced starters we were expecting something very pleasantly and gently seasoned, with a few small accents, showcasing the Calamari.
In two cases - beef Rib eye, Pork - the plates looked stunning, all the elements of the Sides were so special and interesting. We loved the way they are really showcasing each ingredient on it’s own, but also as a whole they work well together. Very playful in texture and shape, very original ideas, really tasty BUT the actual meat element in both cases was less well executed and the taste&texture of the meat was lacking the wow factor.
Still we had a very good overall experience. If you are in Malta it is a must try restaurant and we would...
