Cafe Society Valletta — Restaurant in Valletta

A brilliant place and clearly immensely popular - loads of people order drinks and sit on the steps outside the bar, facing down to the water. Much clearer inside, and great music and live DJ sets some evenings.

We opted for the Aztec Julep which features Tepache, a Mexican fermented pineapple juice that they ferment themselves at Cafe Society. Fruity and not too punchy.

The Pea-sco Sour is very innovative, beautifully presented, and delicate flavours with a good kick of sugar-snap pea - very refreshing!

The Bajtra Paloma has strong grapefruit and woody flavours (from the mezcal) and uses Maltese bajtra, which gives a hint of bubblegum/watermelon flavour (just a hint!). Overall, delicious and refreshing for someone that enjoys citrusy drinks (the Bajtra mellows the tangy grapefruit).

Sitting outside on ancient marble steps, mellow atmosphere, live music and great selection of new and old favourite cocktails… Best cocktails on the island, always trying new things but my favourite is their frozen rose. Went to this cocktail bar as the reviews are great and honestly the atmosphere and cocktails are great but charm disappeared once I saw how the staff "wash" glasses after cocktails... They just dip them in water with washing up liquid for one second and then rinse it for another second in "clean" water . Unfortunately no matter how great the cocktail bar can be if lacks hygiene that's a big "no go " for me, especially post pandemic they should pay attention to clean items after customers drink from them and make sure they are properly temperature treated to make sure no bacteria/virus will survive on its surface.
