La Vela — Restaurant in Guanajuato

I've had different kinds of food around town, some really good, some not that great, this place surprised me, we ordered an empanada, it was hot and crispy, it came with a really good salad as a garnish, we also had a cocktail, it was also delicious and thick, not watery like in other places, we decided to get a plate of shrimp and it was very fresh and well seasoned with what I believe was "salsa negra", delicious. I save the best for last, we got a marlin gordita, it was incredibly delicious and a must try, crunchy but soft and very filling.

Talk about a diamond in the rough. This place is a gem! !! Reminiscent of a Caribbean beach shack. Clean and well maintained with expert food preparers on hand. Tacos on blue corn tortillas are to die for. Succulent fried shrimp with fabulous ensalada and accompanying salsas. Marlin tacos and flautas are exceptional. Try the fresh juice comprised of cucumber, mint, and kiwi. Dishes are prepared most artistically. Staff is trained well. The service was excellent, very kind and helpful. The food was superb. I have been to many more restaurants in Guanajuato that cost more and say there food is very good. Well..La Vela is the best I have had in a very long time. My fried shrimp tacos were cooked perfectly. Yum, yum and yum! The atmosphere was like being in a beach shack with decorations such as the grill of a car, a front window that opens out for takeout, a bit of outdoor seating and so much more.
