The food was tasty but overpriced for Mexico -- US$25 for two basic lunch entrees and one coffee (I had only water). My dish contained celery so fibrous it was unchewable. The service was slow, and the waiter so absent my companion sincerely asked me if he also worked in the kitchen preparing food. Almost every time we looked for him, he wasn't there. He didn't ask my companion if she wanted more water, or whether we wanted any dessert. He even tried to take my plate while I was still eating. He deserved no tip, but I at least left him a below-average tip. He then followed us into the lobby, loudly complained to me for not tipping enough, and asked the reason why -- as if I owe him an explanation. I didn't want to critique all the faults in his service in front of his boss and coworkers, so I muttered something calmly, hoping to de-escalate the situation. Instead, he yelled at me and then to his boss and coworkers. He didn't seem to understand or appreciate that I didn't want to publicly insult him, even though he was doing his best to try to do that to me. I've never before been treated that way by any wait staff in any restaurant in any country. If he thinks that's the way to encourage customers to return, he's mistaken. We certainly won't...
Read moreOscar's is a very special restaurant. Its location is ideal..... between the Romantic Zone and the flea market and Malecon. A wonderful destination after a nice day out on the town. Oscar's is perfect for watching the sunset from its unique island location. The attentiveness of the staff is first class. The food is quite tasty, and there's always something special about it. The Mexican coffee is probably my favourite in PV. But, the key reason for me coming to Oscar's is the cocktails and special drinks prepared by Modesto. You don't need to know what you want..... just let him know what you're planning to eat and how you feel, and he will create something special for you. I recommend Oscar's for anything between having a big Margarita after shopping to creating a big dinner for a special occasion to enjoying a tequila while watching the...
Read moreStaff are very friendly. Lovely location on the Rio Cuale below the Malecon bridge. I began with a complex mezćal cocktail which was delicious. My caesar salad could have been even more garlicky but there’s never enough garlic, right?! I had the filet and it was awesome. The accompaniments were delicious and the steak was expertly done to my requested medium rare. I even had a pastel de chocolate with a delicious filling of charred orange (I was skeptical but it worked!) and a coffee to finish…both delicious.
Oscar’s has been in that location for at least 35 years (I first visited in the late 80s). The food and location were awesome then and continue now. I’m looking forward to...
