Just when we thought it’s impossible to have a bad meal in Mexico City we were proven wrong. This was some of the worst food I have ever had. We started with the guacamole exquisito which is what our waiter recommended— awful. It comes with crema and cojita which we thought would be just a little garnish but what we received was 50% crema 50% avocado blended with HUGE chunks of cojita cheese. The other stuff we ordered was from their special Veracruz menu. We had the aguachile rojo and the octopus in Veracruz sauce. The aguachile had cooked shrimp and the sauce tasted like tomato paste. There was no acidity in it and it tasted more like a shrimp cocktail. The octopus had an almost identical sauce— tasted like uncooked straight out of the can tomato paste. We were expecting fresh and bright flavors but instead we got thick and heavy under seasoned sauces. We got two drinks, one with hibiscus and the other was supposed to be a spicy cucumber margarita. They were very weak and not spicy at all. To make things worse, the place felt stuffy and the waitstaff was too aggressive. We had 6 different waiters come up to us one after the other asking if we wanted another cocktail after we repeatedly said we are ok on drinks. We had not even finish ours and they kept trying to take it away every time they asked. We felt like we were being watched the entire time. I’m not sure how the reviews are so positive... it seems the only good reviews are from years ago so maybe it went downhill. Regardless, nothing about this place was good and it pricy for the portions and quality. I’d give it 0 stars if I could.

Overall our experience was disappointing. I will start off by saying that the margaritas were delicious - we tried the hibiscus, cucumber, and mango varieties and they were all very good. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing, especially the walls with the candles and religious statues. The service was decent and our server was friendly and attentive. Having said all that, the food was really bland and not even remotely worth the prices. We ordered the guacamole and chicharrones to start. The chicharrones were fine but you can get this type anywhere from a street vendor. The guacamole was bland and definitely not freshly prepared - it was really smooth and reminded us of something store-bought rather than made in the kitchen. The mole sauce on the enchiladas was far too sweet for our taste. We ordered the duck fritters which were ok, there was only a tiny amount of duck meat in them; they were very expensive, and in our opinion not worth the price whatsoever. We also ordered the pork tamales which were ok but again really nothing special. We skipped dessert because we didn’t want to risk being disappointed again. It really is a shame that the food was so disappointing, as we had cancelled another reservation in order to visit Azul. I wish we could have better things to say about the food we ordered, but it really missed the mark and don’t recommend this restaurant at all.

Probably one of the best restaurants in Mexico City. Azul is a beautiful restaurant that serves traditional Mexican dishes with breathtaking presentation. This is not your average meal; it’s a spectacular culinary experience. If you’re looking for delicious gourmet food, look no further. Here’s what I tried: appetizer: “panuchos de cochinita pibil” - handmade corn tortillas stuffed with black beans, topped with cochinita pibil (marinated, slow-roasted pork) and pickled red onions; so good! entrée: “pipián rojo vegano” - red sauce made from sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, and guajillo chiles served over gourds; this was the most underwhelming dish for me. entrée: “buñuelos de pato rostizado” - fritters filled with roasted duck, topped with Oaxacan black mole sauce, served over slices of zucchini and blackberries that melt in your mouth; hands down the best dish I tried, I was blown away by the flavors and textures of this dish. drink: “agua de horchata con coco” - a sweet drink made from rice, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and coconut; tasty but very filling. dessert: “mousse de guanabana con zapote” - soursop mousse with sapote sauce; a truly delicious dessert made with two fruits commonly found in Mexican desserts. dessert: “pastel de tres leches con rompope” - tres leches cake in eggnog sauce; not my favorite but a decent dessert.

I don’t understand the good reviews! This place was so bleh! Below average for sure. It was such a disappointment. It seems like a tourist trap, no real local would give this place a good review. I had saved this place for a special occasion, so when friends of mine visited me in Mexico I took them out for a special dinner. We had like 5 different waiters throughout our dinner, it seemed like none of them were communicating with each other so they asked us the same questions over and over again (did you already order? Did you want more drinks? Do you want to see the dessert menu?). We ordered a couple of appetizers and one main per person. The guacamole was simply dismal, looked almost store bought. It had no flavour either, it was just blended avocado with three unsalted chips on top (??). The mole dish with duck we ordered was so strange, like a fried Asian gyoza?? So confusing. And flavourless again. The tortilla soup had a nice presentation and it came with a brief explanation about the cultural importance of the dish, but the taste was just not it. The soup tasted like from a can, no flavour depth, no spices, just warm tomato soup. They brought my main at the end so I ate after all my guests were finished with their meals. I was honestly just embarrassed and sad about the whole experience. So many good restaurants around this area. Azul condesa is just not worth it. And the portions are very small and overpriced, we all left feeling a bit hungry (but didn’t want to order more food since it...

I've been living in Mexico City for about five years and had been looking forward to trying this restaurant. Finally got the chance and my impression was somewhat indifferent. The restaurant was hopping, and we were there on a Wednesday evening. Thankfully we had a reservation and I recommend making one or you very well may not get a seat. Service was prompt but hurried. The whole time we were there servers were bustling about like the place was on fire. I didn't like that because you feel rushed to order, and if you don't order immediately you gotta catch their attention to have another opportunity. Once you order, the food comes out fast. It's quite good and my mother and I were impressed with the flavors and quality. It's also reasonably priced for such a popular venue. The drinks we ordered from the bar menu were lacking - more juice than alcohol, and a bit overpriced for what you got. Because it's a busy restaurant, it's quite loud, so not a place I would go if you're looking for a romantic date, but fine for my mother and I. It appears to be popular with large groups of gringos, and I can tell that this is what they have adapted to cater to. Six cocktails, two appetizers (entradas), and two entrees (platos fuertes) came out to US$125 plus tip - not bad. Overall, I felt this place was overrated, and I don't have a desire to return. It wasn't a special experience - it was a loud hurried food trough for tourists to stuff their faces with local (albeit...
