Barlo is one of those little places in Roma Norte that draws you in the moment you walk by — warm lights, a cozy atmosphere, and that modern Italian vibe that makes you want to stay for hours. It definitely has charm, but the experience ended up being a bit uneven.
We started with the burrata, which was honestly really good — creamy, fresh, and paired with house bread that was incredible. Perfectly crusty on the outside, soft inside… the kind of bread you could eat all night.
Then came the pasta al tartufo, which unfortunately didn’t live up to the expectation. The truffle flavor felt muted and artificial, and it was clear the truffle wasn’t fresh. For a dish that’s supposed to be rich and aromatic, it just fell flat.
The cocktails, on the other hand, were excellent. You can tell they take mixology seriously — well-balanced drinks, creative combinations, and beautiful presentation. Definitely a highlight of the night.
The staff was lovely — super kind, attentive, and clearly trying their best. That said, the timing and organization could use some work. Our starters took a while, but the main dishes were even slower to arrive. One of the plates (the luminarias) showed up more than 30 minutes later, long after the rest of the food.
The space itself is small and cozy, which works during the day, but at night it gets quite cold inside. For the prices they charge, a bit of heating would go a long way. Also, the music is louder than it needs to be — great playlist, just not great for conversation.
Overall, Barlo has potential — the people are kind, the drinks are great, and the atmosphere is inviting. It just needs more consistency and attention to detail to really deliver the experience it promises. I’d go back for a drink and that bread, but maybe skip the truffle...
Read moreAmazing experience! We chose this place randomly on OpenTable because we were craving some Italian food. Everything exceeded our expectations.
The drinks were great, definitely try the Tiramisu cocktail! We ordered two appetizers (baby artichokes and prosciutto croquettes) and 5 entrees (mushroom truffle risotto, squid ink pasta, fettuccine truffle pasta, grilled octopus, braised short rib) and finally their dessert (tiramisu and ice cream). Everything was super delicious and fresh. We enjoyed every dish. They also gave us their complimentary bread which is made in house and was absolute heaven. You can always judge a restaurant by their bread and butter.
I have to also mention that the service was excellent at this place. Our server Ricardo was very attentive and helpful. It was the little details that made the difference. They brought out our food in the exact order we wanted, changed our plates and silverware each new course, wiped the tables clean in between. Top notch service!
Ambiance was nice. The restaurant is beautifully designed, minimalistic style. Bathroom was very clean!
Overall I’d highly recommend this place for your Italian fix in CDMX. We will recommend it to all our friends and make sure we come back next time we are in the city! Thank you to...

Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Experience 5/5
I had a very pleasant experience when I discovered this restaurant in CDMX's Roma Norte borough. Trattoria Barolo offers Italian mainstays with an unexpected -yet delicious- Mediterranean touch. The service was spot on and even chef Rafael went to our table to explain the dishes and suggested a few things based on fresh ingredients that were not on the menu. My personal favorites were the saffron pasta with sobrasada and the chocolate sponge. The food was fairly priced based on the quality of its ingredients . I highly recommend this place if...
