Don't go here they give you mojitos that have been sitting on the bar for a while and that have probably been drank from!!!
No vayan aquí te dan mojitos que han estado en el bar por mucho tiempo y que de seguro alguien ya le tomó de ahí!
I was so excited to try the mojitos in the replica of the real Bodeguita in Havana as I very much enjoyed the original one, so I thought I'll take a trip to memory lane and see how similar they would be. At first the treatment was friendly. We decided to sit outside because we are smokers, we obviously ordered 2 mojitos, but what's annoying is that they didn't even gave us a menu to check prices or see what other stuff they had, the waiter just asked mojitos? To which I said yeah and then he quickly walked off. They brought the mojitos which were very tasty but definately weak on alcohol. Especially when they're 5 dollars per mojito and they're small.
We then wanted to see the live band which travels from room to room, so we asked if we could be seated inside, the waitress was a bit annoyed I even asked, but she finally sat us on the terrace. We had to then pay for the drinks we had downstairs and I honestly don't understand why? So we payed for the mojitos which they undercharged us, for 2 mojitos it was 198 pesos. We then decided to order two more mojitos once we were at the terrace, while waiting I saw a mojito at the bar which was sitting there for 20-30 Mins, when the waiter came back he only brought 1 mojito and proceeded to quickly and sneakily give me the one at the bar which was sitting there for a while with melted ice and god knows if somebody else had drank from it and in covid times and 5 dollars per mojito? Ridiculous!
When we payed they charged us for the real price which in total was 218 at first I was confused as to why the bartender downstairs charged us less, but finally the bartender decided to show us for the very first time a menu! So the second time they charged as they should. Honestly it was all very strange and I definately found it very disgusting the bartender giving me a mojito someone else didn't wanted. I would have loved to refuse the mojito but then I would be in fear of getting spit in the fresh mojito they could have brought.
I worked as a bartender in a pub in England for many years, not as fancy as this place. And I would never ever serve a drink to a customer that was sitting there for ages and that somebody else didn't want. Its rude, it lacks customer service and it ia...
Read moreFor foreigners visiting this restaurant SCAM ALERT. This is not a 1 star review because of the food or the atmosphere. Actually this restaurante is really nice, they have live music and the food is ok. But when you pay with a foreigner card they will degrade the US dollar rate against the Mexican peso by at least 20%. What do I mean by this? I am from the US and I’ve been living here for more than a year so I am up to date on what the US dollar is worth here. I even use an app called Glove Convert that works in real time. When I went to pay I noticed my bill was $15 higher than it should. When I asked the server he called his manager. Turns out they were giving me a rate of 15.50 pesos instead of 16.70 which was the current US dollar rate at that time. When I asked the manager he gave me a very rude response “You should’ve asked what the rate was before you entered the restaurant” Now as someone who has lived here for more than a year this is the first time something like this has happened to me. Restaurants here do NOT charge you their own rate. The rate has always been what the US dollar is worth against the peso. I have a habit where before I pay I always check how much my bill is in dollars to make sure I am paying what I should. Actually the terminals they use to charge you automatically convert it to pesos to the current rate. I go out to eat out every weekend and this is a first. This restaurant is stealing your money which unfortunately is a very common practice here when you are a foreigner. I told the server I was not gonna leave him a tip as his manager is stealing my money and his manager should give him a tip from the money that’s being stolen from me. My advice pay with cash or do not go here. Nobody likes to be taken advantage on. Remember your foreigner card will most likely charge you a 3% also so if you go here you’ll be probably end up paying 25% more than you should. Shame on this restaurant. I will do some digging and find out if I can report this restaurant to the...
Read moreThis was my first time back in Mexico in four years, and I was really looking forward to trying La Bodeguita del Medio in CDMX. I had high hopes, especially since it's known for its Cuban atmosphere and food — but it ended up being one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had.
From the start, the service was absolutely terrible. The waiter was impatient, fidgety, and clearly rushing us to order. My family felt pressured and confused by how the menu worked — it's not clearly explained whether the dishes are served individually or as platters with sides. The menu is very misleading.
When the food arrived, we were completely underwhelmed. It was just plain meat with onions — no sides, no presentation, nothing to justify the price or the reputation. My beef was flavorless, my girlfriend's shredded steak lacked seasoning, my dad's chicken breast was dry, and only my mom's pork came with sides, which made us even more confused. We noticed other tables had full meals with rice, beans, and plantains — we were never told we had to order those separately.
The staff made no effort to guide us or clarify the ordering process, which completely ruined the experience. I left feeling disappointed, frustrated, and honestly embarrassed that I brought my family here thinking it would be special.
I do NOT recommend this place. If you still decide to go, make sure you ask very specific questions about the food and what is or isn't included — because the staff...
