Loup Bar is one of the few wine specialist bars in Mexico City. We went there with a reservation on a busy Sat evening.
It does have a fine selection of natural wine. However, that's about the only good thing going for it.
Wine glasses are priced in the region of 250 mex pesos (£12.50), which is understandable given the product (however note, this is more than we pay in London for similar wine!). With that the customer expects a high degree of customer service which sadly we did not receive.
Waiters look jaded (or maybe trying to be "cool"). The plastic canopy for the terrace truly cheapens the aesthetic. The door to the kitchen was half open for 10 minutes and there was truly a stench coming out way from it. Waiters seem not very knowledgeable about the range of wines they stock, and little in the way of explanation of taste profiles other than what's listed on the menu.
Worst of all, there was an apparent miscommunication when we ordered 2 glasses of wine which are stated to be 60ml pours on the menu. For some reason, we ended up getting double that, which we only realised when we were charged double what we expected to pay for the glass of wine. When flagging this up the waiter suggested we ordered a large glass when this was not the case. We sat there awkwardly for 15 minutes whilst the team discussed amongst themselves how to resolve it and finally we were refunded the total and given a new receipt. There was no apology, the new amount to pay automatically had a tip punched into the machine (!) and they could not wait to see us go.
Honestly if this place is aiming to be high end / premium then the staff need to go on a customer service course first.
Go to del Suelo in Centro instead for a vastly different experience, without pretension, and service by a warm friendly team who treat you...

Ceviche de pescado - one of the most delicious ceviche I’ve had. The sauce is a perfect symphony of citrus notes and savory umami. I was close to drinking it from the plate.
Tartare - not your traditional French tartare. Great sauce once again.
Brochetas de wagyu - the marinate tastes Asian-inspired to me (soy sauce, ginger, sugar). The meat was tender.
Falafel - delicious baba ganoush (wish there was more). Falafel was nice and crispy on the outside.
Brocheta thai de camarón - I miss shrimp paste! The shrimp is already well seasoned and perfect with a squeeze of lemon. Ate it without the peanut sauce on the side.
Tarta chocolate caramelo - the thick caramel base pairs beautifully with the smooth semi-dark chocolate mousse. Crust is rich and buttery. Surprisingly well-balanced (as I was worried that it’ll be too sweet) from texture to flavor.
I’m sold when a wine bar has awesome dishes to order from. They have some wines by the glass (there were 3 available when I went, white, orange, and red respectively). Service is friendly (and the staff speaks fluent English).
The only feedback I have may be to turn down the music volume by a tad... but it might be because I was the only person in the restaurant, so there was no other “conversation noise” to drown the ambient music.
Can’t wait to...
Read moreMy poor rating is in no way a comment on the food. The food and wine options are fine. However yesterday when I went my waitress was extremely rude. She didn't ask if I wanted food or drinks but asked my date for her order. I then had to ask if I could order food after I was able to flag her down because she essentially ran from our table after getting my dates order. I was trying to connect to the Wi-Fi and after asking if i needed WiFi she comes back and hands the information to my date rather than me. When the food did come she literally sat every plate in front of my date rather than giving me my food. The only time she acknowledged me and the only thing she sat in front of me was the check. I don't know what her problem was. She seemed to be able to give great service to everyone else besides me. The only black person in the restaurant. It made me really uncomfortable and it's very unfortunate because the past times I came here it was great. I flew from NYC to CDMX and going back to this restaurant was a key deciding factor in my trip. But, there are a ton of great places to eat and drink in CDMX without wondering if my waitress is intentionally ignoring me because of the...
