Overpriced, underwhelming, and forgettable food paired with pushy and average service at Sesame. Located on Calle Colima, a street filled with various trendy restaurants (including the famous bakery next door), Sesame is a pan-Asian eatery offering dishes inspired by different parts of the continent.
Upon arrival, we were handed menus, but our server immediately started pushing for us to order alcoholic drinks, which felt unnecessary. A positive note was that he asked about allergies, and my request for no peanuts in the pad thai was noted. The food and drinks arrived promptly, and while the pad thai had a good portion size and looked appealing, the taste fell flat. It was lukewarm and just average overall (6.5/10).
Prices were steep, especially for drinks. Cocktails were somewhat reasonable, but the mineral water was an exaggerated $95, and soft drinks were $75—both felt excessively overpriced. The pad thai itself was $285, which, considering the flavor and overall experience, was not worth it.
Ultimately, Sesame feels more like a place that capitalizes on its trendy location rather than delivering a memorable dining experience. The elevated price tag was the only thing that truly stood out, and the forgettable food and drink make it a spot I...
Read moreAvoid! I can't remember the last time I felt compelled to complain to the waiter about the food or write a negative review, but this was so bad that I felt it necessary to do so. I ordered ramen noodles for 16 USD – it arrived in a bowl so small I thought it was an appetizer. The soup was cold and so salty I couldn't even eat it. I couldn't believe that they were honestly trying to serve this – and at US/European prices no less.
When we complained, they basically ignored us, no apologies or anything. I told them that I could not pay for my main, but we would pay for the rest (which was also not good, but not a total joke like the 16$ "ramen"). Then, it took forever to get the bill (we just wanted to leave) and once they brought it, they harassed my husband about not leaving a tip due to the terrible service and argued with him about giving him a receipt. This was truly the worst all-around dining experience I can remember...
Read moreOrdered a few dishes to share and a main and I would say that most of the sauces were too sweet to be enjoyable or really anything close to "Asian" or even Asian fusion. We got a lamb samosa (not particularly interesting for a samosa and was served with an overly sweet chutney that wouldn't typically be served in any south Asian restaurant) steamed dumplings, these were good but quite small (one bite) -Sichuan beef tacos: decent but not anything special. Served in lettuce and not corn tortillas, which was fine but lettuce wasn't mentioned in the menu listing. "camarones vietnam" a shrimp dish main with lemongrass (didn't really come through as a flavor), sambal olek, bean sprouts and rice on the side that seemed to be Viet, Thai, and Indonesian but again, was covered in a sweet rather than salty/spicy sauce.
Would recommend going somewhere for Asian food if you're not in the mood for mostly...
