I'll give my honest review about this place. Everything was amazing. The ambiance, atmosphere, drinks, service, all of it was great. The food was also great, HOWEVER, this is my only critique/feedback, and I hope this feedback goes back to the sushi chefs.
Please please PLEASE keep your rice warmers closed!!!!! You have no idea how disappointed I was when I took my first bite of sushi, it was a kanpachi nigiri, and while the fish was super delicious and fresh, the rice was a little bit cold and dry. It was cold and dry enough for me to notice it while eating my nigiri, and these were some pretty big nigiri!! From the moment I stepped foot into the restaurant until the moment I left, I noticed the rice warmer they use for their nigiri/handrolls was kept open the whole night. If this rice was being used for rolls, I could forgive it and see past it. But because it was being used for nigiri sushi, it had an impact on the overall experience. Nigiri sushi is meant to have warm, seasoned, and moist rice. If it's cold and dried out from being left exposed to the open air, then that immediately has a negative impact on the quality of your sushi. I am a sushi chef myself, so I know the importance of keeping your rice warm. The sushi rice is literally the most important thing for sushi, and if that is compromised, then so is the sushi. Otherwise, the fish was amazing and so was everything else.
I sincerely hope they take this feedback with grace and consider implementing it, because it would make their sushi exponentially better. Would've been a 5/5 for me, but the cold rice is my only...
Read moreDecent sushi, but not cheap at all and defo not as good as the better sushi places in New York. You can't order a sushi or sashimi "regular," like an assortment of sushi pieces, as you can in the U.S. It's only a la carte, which makes it more costly at like $8 to $12 per maki roll (kind of U.S. prices, not Mexico prices). The unagi roll didn't come with the customary sweet tari sauce, and when I asked if they had any they put this weird-tasting, very thick stuff on it that wasn't really tari. The raw fish did seem reasonably fresh. But my waiter forgot to order one of my rolls so like 10 minutes after I finished part of my order he comes over and asks, "algo mas?" He apologized when I told him he forgot to request some of my order. No biggie, another ten minute wait. But he looked very unhappy when I left him a 10% tip, which is pretty customary in Mexico, and didn't say thanks for coming...
Read moreWabi Sushi holds a special place in my heart as my absolute favorite sushi spot in Mexico City. Stepping inside, the ambiance seamlessly blends traditional and modern elements, creating an inviting atmosphere. However, it's the exceptional cuisine that truly sets Wabi apart. Our culinary journey began with rib eye gyozas, a symphony of flavors that delighted the palate. My personal favorite, the crispy roll, exceeded all expectations. Each bite was a burst of joy, with the fried shrimp and the sweet and spicy harmonizing perfectly in your mouth. Beyond the remarkable food, the service at Wabi is great. Both the servers and the owner demonstrate a genuine commitment to providing a memorable experience. For sushi enthusiasts in Mexico City, Wabi Sushi is a must-visit destination. With its tasty offerings, impeccable service, and commitment to excellence, it stands as the model of...
