I've been to cobarde twice now. The first time, my experience was great ! The food was amazing. I couldn't stop telling people how good that place is . 5 months later , I went back to Oaxaca, and 1 of the places that I wanted to go back was cobarde. I google the restaurant just to see if they were open , and I was surprised by the low raiting they had but i just thought it was a couple of bad reviews so I didn't care much about that so I just went back because of my first experience. But this second experience was nothing like the first one. The first thing I noticed going up the stairs it's that they got awarded a michelline star, I was surprised that they restaurant was empty even with the star . Usually, michelline star restaurants have a long wait time, or you have to reserve in advance, but that's not the case anymore. We ordered and the first thing that I notice it was that the place weren't the same for everyone, mismatch and some of them had the rim broken, I thought for a michelline star restaurants that was a no no but not here. We ordered over 8 dishes, and only once they changed our plates. The first time I was there, they were constantly changing or asking if we wanted new plates. The food was good, but there were 2 dishes that were just awful. The shrimp dish was probably one of the worst dishes I ever had. Just tasted like a burned shrimp shell with a strong coconut flavor, barely any meat on the shrimp. But the hanger steak was just awful, I asked for medium rare, the steak came out blue, still cold in the middle . I told the server and he took it back and when he brought it back we could tell he was upset , he went and told us that we were wrong and they gave it to us the way we asked for it , trying to explain me how temperatures on meat work , terrible attitude, we didn't say anything but just took it. I've been cooking for over 16 years professionally as well as my girlfriend and we enjoy eating out , we dont say anything unless its pretty bad and we are nice about it , becausewe understand that mistakes can happen, , we didn't say anything back to the server because we didn't want to argue , just simply we won't go back and not recommend this place. The server got upset that he didn't come back after that. They just took the steak and placed it under the broiler for a few second and sent it back , it was still raw and cold. Seems like michelline stars are giving out to places without the merit. It's been the second restaurant with michelline Star that the experience has been bad. It seems like you can pay to get the star now. You don't...
Read moreVery disappointed with the service in this restaurant. On arriving we were handed the menu and wine list. I immediately ordered a bottle of wine while looking at the food menu. About 5 mins later the server returned to say they did not have that wine, so we choose another, 10 mins later the server returned to tell us they did not have that wine either and in actual fact had no white wine at all, there were approximately 10 different white wines on the list. We then choose a mexican red wine which again about 5mins later our server returned with, this wine was not suitable for drinking. Our server suggested a tempranillo wine to which we agreed returning some 10mins later to say they did not have that. I will not continue as this story just goes on and on, the upshot being they only had 3 wines available 2 of which quite frankly were undrinkable. Again when ordering the food the first two items I choose were unavailable, eventually we did manage to order something they had The food itself was very nice but completely spoiled by the lack of management of the wine situation. You would think a restaurant with such a good rating would be able to manage themselves...
Read moreTruly the worst place I ate at while visiting Oaxaca. Dishes were underwhelming at best. Tried the pho and the gnudi and both lacked flavor and substance. Pho didn’t taste like pho at all.
While the food was tolerable the service was dismissive and rude. One of the dishes wasn’t eaten because it had no flavor. I told the server who took the dish away and didn’t say anything.
When another staff member came over for us to pay the dish was still on the menu. I told him I let the server know we didn’t like the dish. The other person insisted that the dish was good and that we didn’t care for the flavor. The tone and words used was very this is your fault you don’t like it but the flavors didn’t match the menu.
I pushed back and asked why we weren’t told this by our server. The person we’re now taking too tells me that he actually doesn’t like the dish either but refused to take it off the bill. The communication overall was really disappointing and dismissive. I would never return and highly recommend rethinking...
