I hate to have to leave this review because everyone was very kind and the food was absolutely delicious but I am celiac and went specifically because they have a menu with gf items listed (and one of the workers told me they’re celiac while I was there so they know what it means) but the edamame was not marked as one preparation gluten free and the other not, simply as the dish being gf (which it typically is at every restaurant I’ve been to so I didn’t question it). I told the hostess when she asked about food allergies that I was celiac so they gave me the gf menu. I ordered the edamame and the waiter did not tell me that I had to order it the certain way for it to be gf and even prompted us to order it the way that was not gf. Even after the reminder of asking for gf tamari to use, still nothing. Then about 3/4 of the way through he came up and was like oh that version has soy sauce, do you want the gf version. We got multiple apologies from people (especially the worker who mentioned that he was also celiac, ironically no apology or even acknowledgement from our server) but I’m not sure what good an apology does when I’m likely to end up sick for the next few days on my trip. Again, hate to write this review because other than that everything was excellent and I would have given everything 5 stars. Just for any fellow celiacs out there, be extra cautious and tell everyone that you’re celiac/confirm the menu items are actually gf the way you’re wanting them prepared. (Gave the food 5 stars because it is truly delicious and marked service way down for the screw up, though I should note they were lovely and very...
Read moreAn unbelievable sushi experience in the heart of Tulum. Funky minimalist modern decor and themes, well-layes out and very inviting open-air restaurant located on an unassuming street, highly recommended by locals and visitors in the know. Fast, friendly, knowledgeable service and excellent recommendations by servers and staff. Start with a selection of unique, inventive hand-crafted refreshments and delicious appetizers (the spicy tuna crispy rice and vegan spring rolls were outstanding). Once you’re ready to move on to the main event, the wide selection of unique, creative menu offerings is sure to blow you away, marrying fresh local ingredients and flavours with traditional sushi and sashimi in a way that boggles the mind. Our group of 7 ordered the ichi, sake especiale, hamachi especiale, naha, hachi and akumataiga rolls - each was perfect, and perfectly unique and distinct. Coupled with hand-crafted ponzu dressing, sweetened soy sauce (not teriyaki), and straight-up soy sauce, the combinations were outstanding. In fairness though, the rolls were so good on their own that they honestly didn’t need any sauces at all - as recommended by the servers. Easy on-site wheelchair accessible parking. A sushi dining experience to rival the finest sushi restaurants, sincerely. Generous, just right portions, for high $200mx to low $300mx per roll, it was well worth it. For dessert, try the Japanese cheese-cake with coconut ice cream. Unbelievable, and a perfect way end the meal. Highly recommended, and will definitely be visiting again....
Read moreI'm going to be as honest as can be... we arrived and even though the place was full, they treated us very well and gave us a table as soon as possible, someone approached who I couldn't identify if it was the manager or the owner and his service was very good but unprofessional in terms of overconfidence when speaking to us… we were recommended to order by time because the food actually comes out VERY quickly, so far so good, they forgot to bring my drink twice, which obviously bothered me… I repeat, something normal... but now let's talk about the part where they are not doing a good job at all... the food... I started with some cold edamames that you can see were taken out of the freezer just like the gyozas... you could literally feel pieces that were still cold from the freezer … the miso soup arrived and let me say wow, very good portion and presentation… the nigiris and makis, DO NOT ASK FOR THEM… the rice is not Shari, it is not sushi rice, the quality of the fish did not impress me, everything tastes like stored fish… the rolls are excessive, very good presentation but a mix of flavors that I consider do not go with the place… I would like to clarify that this is a review as feedback, I do not intend to damage the image of the place, they have a good chance of being the best However, today they are not, I was very disappointed with the food, I slept badly, my stomach was upset, leave the spicy mayo aside, not everything should have that sauce that only hides the...
