This review is not about my stay but about the hotel management, specifically the owners wife Sharon who is also the reservation manager. I don't know how the hotel is to stay because we were nearly ripped off at check in - see invoice attached. The agreed upon total was supposed to be for 5 nights split between their 2 hotels, other El Nido, Holbox.||||Since we asked to swap 2 nights in Tulum due to weather the owners request we pay an additional $150 for the nights in Tulum and as agreed upon in writing forfeit 2 nights in Holbox, we were asked to pay the total up front - strange since she already had my credit card and agreement for the first 4 nights. ||||When we arrived we were presented with the invoice totaling $1,030.44 USD or $415/night USD plus tax. When we showed the email agreement the front desk rep called Sharon and she told him "just charge them that". When we asked them to handwrite on the agreement that is was for 5 nights to clarify he said "we can't do that" ||||We ultimately had to walk as by paying and signing that invoice it would have given them the legal right to charge us over $1k for 2 nights, plus the original amount of almost $900 USD. Totally incorrect and we want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but on paper this is as it appears - unethical.||||We were ultimately forced to walk and to leave the next day for Holbox or forfeit all of our deposit. When we arrived in Holobox, the owner Franceso acknowledged that we were charge incorrectly but did not apologize for his staff and wife's actions - zero apology. I will tell you that the hotel in Holbox is beautiful, but that's it, no hospitality, far from town nothing on site and they nickel and dime you for everything - not a...

Read moreWe booked an Economy Double Room for 5 nights. On Booking.com it stated that it included a TV, mini fridge and free toiletries. None of this was availabe, and when I confronted the staff with these missing items, I was told that it was a mistake on the website and that they would have to change it.
The staff didn’t apologize or try to compensate us in any way for the missing facilities or the mistake on the website. I feel that there is a great lack of service-oriented management and professionalism from the staff.
Furthermore the main light and ceiling fan stopped working, leaving the room feel quite dark. The air conditioning remote control stopped working several times as well during our stay, which was really inconvenient as the room became either extremely cold or boiling hot when this happened (as we weren’t able to change the temperate or turn on/off the AC).
The location is quite good, near lots of lively bars, restaurants and clubs. However, due to the lack of sound isolation, this also means that there is a lot of noise coming into the room. There is a nearby rooftop bar which blasts loud music until around 2 am. Especially on saturday it was unbearable, the other nights I could live with it, although it wasn’t ideal
There are bikes available for rent at the hotel, for $200 mxn pesos per day. This is the same price as other bike rental shops charge in the area, although some hotels offer free or discounted rental bikes for their guests. Unfortunately this hotel is not one of them.
All in all, I would have preferred to stay in a hotel a bit further from the centre, where it is a bit quieter, with better facilities, free bike usage and more helpful...
