This place is called Escama, but it should be called it’s a scama. Worst restaurant I’ve been to in all of tulum and I have been here twice. We were the only table sitting in the whole restaurant and somehow they still couldn’t get it together. The drinks were expensive and not good and we ordered a rib eye guacamole, 12 oysters and the fish tacos and they were all TERRIBLE. Not only was all the food bad, but somehow 12 oysters took 40+ minutes with no other customers in the restaurant. It honestly baffled me to see such horrible service. We waited for so long we didn’t even want the oysters or fish tacos so I told them to cancel them but they wouldn’t. They finally arrived after a very dreadful and long wait for no reason. We took a bite and they were warm. Usually my bf can eat 70+ oysters when we go out and he ended up having half of them and then spitting some back out. I took a bite of the fish taco and was even more appalled. It was definitely just taken out of the freezer and served to us. It had a very fishy smell too which made me even more worried as I am diving the next morning. After waiting an hour for a guacamole, 12 oysters and the two smallest frozen fish tacos we ended up leaving half of it and asking for the bill that also somehow took about 10 minutes to come. Oh and my bf ordered a Bloody Mary and they didn’t have tomato juice. So it really makes you wonder if anything in there is fresh. I just hope I don’t get food poisoning from anything I ate there because it was all very disappointing and the seafood was definitely not fresh. Do not waste your time or...

Place looks nice and well designed for a bar/restaurant, with outdoor open seating.
Hospitality: I was greeted at the door , waiter was super nice and friendly. Recommended few items on the menu and drinks. Good job and keep up the good work.
Food: Ordered the guacamole appetizer because I love the freshness of Guacamole in Mexico. Came in a oversized bowl which kinda threw me off a little bit. It could be done a smaller one , not sure the purpose behind it.
Tuna Tostadas were OK, I've had better for less price. Presentation was beautiful. Tuna tasted plain. Tostada was not fresh and crispy like it supposed to be.
Dessert: work on bringing in some local desserts not just American. I ordered the Carrot cake, the icing is plain and too buttery.
Ambience, was boring for me although it was 5pm. A place like that should have better music. I would expect a ready open restaurant with that style.
Cons: Bring Off or mosquito repellent, I had to move on the inside glass room.
Restaurant has limited parking, so better come in Taxi or walking distance if you are...

We had an mazing experience here!
I saw the menu online and thought the food sounded interesting.
Jose was a great server last night. We ordered margaritas and mezcalitas.
Our server also recommended the guacamole; this was deliciously flavored (the chips were nothing special, homemade chips would have made this extra special).
We ordered the fried calamari appetizer and for main course we ordered:
ribeye tacos and grilled octopus.
Normally, I would not order octopus in the USA, but our server informed us the octopus was locally caught. This was the best octopus I have ever had.
All the food was fresh, and properly seasoned. The calamari could have been a little more crispy, but the freshness of the food was great.
The server offered us bug spray, and the seating is outside with a patio style roof. The bug spray was necessary, the mosquitos are aggressive in the evening.
Pros:
— great ambiance (lighting, seating, decor) — strong and well made margaritas, mezcalitas — wonderfully flavored and balanced food
— Copal smoke everywhere...
