My girlfriend and I recently stayed at Prana Boutique for 4 nights and had the best vacation of our lives. Here are a few reasons why this hotel rules!
GROUNDS -The grounds are just beautiful, even more so than the pictures. The place is an absolute jungle oasis covered in all different kinds of trees, flowers, birds, etc. And the design/aesthetic could not be more tasteful and inviting. There are hammocks, been bag chairs, little outdoor beds, just so relaxing and luxurious. The flow of the place between the rooms, the pool, the restaurant is so open yet private at the same time where you want it to be. You really have to experience it to fully appreciate it. But it's the kind of environment you never want to leave.
ROOM- We got the standard room (no tv or extra little pool) and we were blown away by how nice it was. Huge and very comfortable king sized bed. Extremely quiet and effective Air Conditioner and ceiling fan. Bathroom was huge, had two sinks and an enormous shower complete with rain shower head. Water was always hot and pressure was perfect. Beautiful concrete floors throughout and impeccably clean and well appointed. I've stayed in place that are $600 plus per night and I'm not kidding, these rooms are in this category.
STAFF - Just the friendliest, sharpest, most attentive, service focused people you could imagine. We went to some other hotels in Tulum for drinks and meals and everyone was really nice but the staff at Prana Boutique was a cut above the rest. I would try my best to speak Spanish with them but they were all perfectly fluent in English. The bar tender waiter Arsenio made the best cocktails and was just so friendly and accomodating. There were two women at the font desk, Fabiola and Gabi who were just excellent. So knowledgable about the area and made you feel right at home. I cannot say enough about the staff.
3 EXTRAS - -Free continental breakfast every morning was excellent. Fresh fruit, eggs, toast, croissants. You can order more things from the menu but we thought the free stuff was plenty. -Free bikes! This was HUGE. 10 min bike ride to the best Cenotes in Tulum. 15 min to the ruins. 20 min to the beach and main strip. 5 minutes to the town. We biked everywhere and it was a blast. -Yoga class. I took the best Yoga class of my life at Prana Tulum. The teacher was world class. I won't go into too much detail because I don't want to spoil it if you go but if you like yoga at all, you have to do this during your stay.
There are so many more little things that make this place special but I will leave them out so that you can have the joy of discovering them for yourselves like we did. But if you're not attached to staying right on the beach in Tulum, this is your place! I would not recommend staying right in the town. We spent some time there and it's great to visit the restaurants and stuff but I think Prana Boutique's location is much better because it is set back a bit from the town right on the road that leads to the beach so it is dead quiet and removed a bit, but close enough to easily access everything in the town. Book this place, you...
Read moreI loved this hotel. I stayed in Villa 10 (aka Villa Ananda?) with a private patio and a little pool. The room was spacious, everything worked and having the private patio with the pool was so nice. One thing: if you’re going to get a room with a plunge pool, keep in mind that there are a lot of trees around and while the staff does its best to keep things clean, there will be leaves in the pool (including the big pool) especially when it gets windy. With all the greenery, keeping stuff out of the pool is an exercise in futility so it shouldn’t be something to complain about. The staff is so nice and whenever I needed something, it was done. The one thing I would change about the suite I was in: it would be nice to have a small table in the living area. There’s a stove and a fridge but nowhere to put food on. Same for the patio, a side table for the lounger would be nice. The breakfasts were great. I don’t understand the complaints about small portion sizes. Everything I had was more than enough. The rooftop bar is great at sunset and service is excellent. Same for the restaurant and the bar by the main pool. The reception and cleaning staff are great. I needed a relaxing vacation and this place delivered just that mostly thanks to the great staff. For the surrounding area, it was so nice to have a huge supermarket across the street and so many great restaurants walking distance. As a solo female traveller, I felt very safe walking around (although I am not someone who really goes out at night so most of my outings were before sunset). Overall, I would recommend this place and especially booking a villa with a private terrace/plunge pool if you can splurge. One negative: while this is not a party hotel, there isn’t much quiet time. Music starts at 7am at the restaurant then continues until 10pm at the bar. I mean, what’s the point of blasting music for four people at the pool anyway? Or at breakfast? Eating breakfast with loud electronic music with bass turned to 11 was not on my bingo card for this trip (it wasn’t like that every day but some days). Then if you’re unlucky, there will be people talking until 12pm-1am outside of your room. The place is small and the sound travels. I did address the noise issue with reception and they were really understanding so I am hoping that they will enforce quiet time after the bar closes and before the restaurant opens. It’s just not set up to be a party hotel and I think there are other options in the area for that. Also, the hotel accepts kids but aside from the pool, I don’t really see what’s there for a kid to do. A couple of little tweaks would be nice but overall, this has been an amazing experience. I would definitely consider going back but would likely book a room that is not directly across the restaurant/bar/main pool area because...
Read morePrana Boutique Hotel was exactly what we were looking for in Tulum, and we knew it from the moment we saw the listing. It was evident from the first glimpse that this would not be just another contemporary hotel, but that a genuine passion to deviate from the norm was thoughtfully on display throughout. Situated just on the edge of the city on the road that leads south the beach, you're well placed to be within a short walk of town proper or a short bike/taxi/scooter ride to the beach.
Upon booking our room for a week, the hotel staff happily assisted our booking a private car to transport us from the airport in Cancun to the hotel in Tulum. We arrived late enough in the day not to want to go out for dinner, and we were rewarded with excellent dining at their on-site Nido restaurant. Excellent service--but in no way stuffy or obsequious--very personable and knowledgable. The food was spectacular as well. Over the next few days we sampled a large section of the menu, vegetarian and meat-eating options alike and were never unimpressed. In fact, a number of the best things we ate in Tulum came from the Nido! Dining is outdoors, near the pool's waterfall, and with the aid of burning copal to ward off mosquitos, you will have simply wonderful meals with attentive service.
The pool area is also lovely. Standard waking hours at the pool are accompanied by--and I can't emphasize this enough--the most tasteful mix of world psychedelic music. Time and again, I couldn't believe my ears that I was hearing Fela Kuti, Group Doueh, or Mulatu Astatke in this perfect oasis setting. Amazing taste on display.
The rooms were furnished just as advertised: a fantastic chic minimalism throughout. King size bed very comfortable, and an enormous double sink bathroom with a gorgeous tiled shower. Added bonus, we were regularly graced by Nikita, the hotel cat, in our room at our invitation. Such a sweet cat.
Daily as we were headed out to explore the city, the host at the desk would inquire about our plans, in order to make appropriate recommendations or perhaps to warn against certain activities that might not be cut-out for non-locals. All recommendations were spot-on and greatly appreciated.
I would recommend the hotel to anyone coming to the Tulum area looking for something a...
